New Rulesets That I can Think Of: Part 1

chaos_legion.png

With the addition of the Chaos Legion in Splinterlands, it is noticeable that more high mana cards have been added in the game and because of this, recent updates include the addition of different high mana cap battles so that we can have more use of this cards which in turn, adds more to the number of battle combinations that we currently have. Given so, there is a strong chance that within the future updates, we can also see new Rulesets added in the game. As my first content, I want to share my thoughts of what this Rulesets can be and why they should be added though unless it can be put into an actual test by the developers, will we know if it balances the game or not. That said, let's proceed with the first ability that I have in mind and probably the most obvious one.

Description

I prefer to call it a Typhoon because I live at the East but since the developers live in the West, they might call it as Hurricane but either way, I have no problem with it.

As you can see, this is identical to the Earthquake Ruleset where non- flying monsters will receive 2 melee damage at the end of every turn. Flying is an ability that increases the chance of melee and range attacks to miss its target by 25%. However, monsters with Dodge ability shares the same effect but even so, monsters with flying ability is more popular than those with dodge ability. There are also more monsters with flying ability than dodge. Just look at the dragon element alone and you can see that most of them has flying ability even at the base level and there is the dragon summoner, Brighton Bloom, which gives the flying ability to every monster. When you just bought a spellbook and only have the starter cards, you can see that every element has the flying ability, some with more than one monster but if you look for monster with dodge ability, you can only see one on the entire starter cards. Upon checking, there are only 21 cards with dodge ability while there are 61 cards with flying.

So, if we already have identical abilities, why can't we have identical rulesets? They might have already addressed this on one of their townhall sessions but since I am relatively new to the game, I might have missed it or that the number of cards is a factor. Either way, ths will be a great game changer if implemented. For Instance, cards with Shield ability (commonly used as tanks) which reduces melee and range damage by half will received zero damage from it which means that having them aside from dodge cards gives you a better chance of winning the battle. Just think of it like this, in other games, tanks are the main defense, has great HP and sturdy reason why they can received the blows of their enemies but tends to be slow and heavy so if we think that earthquake and typhoon are natural disaster, earthquake will be hard to escape since they are slow while Typhoon will find it hard to blow them away for the same reason.

The thing is, the game will be more challenging because right now, there are less dodge monsters to build your strategy. Shield cards might be able to compensate for the low numbers but most of them are really slow and if you have more dodge cards than your opponent, there is a high chance for you to land damage to your opponent while you have higher chance to dodge theirs. This also provides room for the demand of dodge monsters either with the future reward cards or the next series of cards which is the Riftwatchers set coming this quarter and Rebellion set which is coming next year.

That was it for my first content. There are lots or areas that I need to improve but I think that I properly convey my thoughts.

I think this is a really good ruleset addition if implemented.
