Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Rebellion was the 5th major set that was introduced into Splinterlands and just like the previous sets, it has introduced a new batch of abilities to the game, expanding the variety of strategies and card synergies that we can use to win our battle. That is why it is important for us to familiarize with how this new abilities work.
And so, with the previous weeks, I did started to have my in depth review on the Rebellion abilities to know which situations they prevail, and for this week's post, I will take a look on the Execute Ability.
What is Execute Ability?
Execute is an ability that allows a unit to perform another attack against the same unit if the target has 2 or less health after a successful attack. Does not matter if it does not reduce its health and only reduce its armor, as long as the target has 2 or less health, the ability will still trigger. In a sense, this makes it similar to Double Strike or even Trample but will only trigger when the unit reach low health.
Prons
As long as the target has 2 or less health, units with Execute may attack twice, given that the first attack is successful.
Notable Interactions with other abilities.
If a unit with Execute has Blast and the blast damage hits an adjacent unit to the target with 2 or less health, the unit with Execute will attack that adjacent unit which further spreads the Blast damage.
If a unit with Double Strike has Execute, the Execute will trigger either after the first attack if the target already has 2 health or less or after the second attack.
If a unit has both Trample and Execute, a death using the Execute ability can trigger the Trample ability, allowing a unit to attack 3 times.
Cons
Execute will not take effect if the opponent has 3 or more health.
Execute will not trigger if the attacker misses its target even if it has 2 or less health.
Best Ruleset
Stampede | The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed. |
Explosive Weaponry | All Monsters have the Blast ability. |
Worst Ruleset
Equalizer | The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health. |
Cards with Lookout Ability
As of the moment, there were only 2 cards with the Execute ability, 1 of which is rare and 1 of which is epic, both of which are melee units. Aside from that, the final Rebellion conflicts summoner, Nidhoggr has the ability to to give the Execute ability on up to 3 units during the tactics round.
Battle Showcase
As you can see in this battle, Night Stalker has attacked Clockwork Aide which has less than 2 health but since it has an armor, it was not able to defeat it in which Execute should have triggered and deal the finishing attack.
However, due to Blast, the health of Soul Strangler goes down to 2 and Night Stalker has instead attack it, inflicting 3 damage to both Naga Assassin and Clockwork Aide.
As a result, not only Night Stalker defeat both Soul Strangler and Clockwork Aide but also defeats Naga Assassin.
Meanwhile, in this battle, I used both Thanalorian Blade which has the Trample ability so when it was able to successfully trigger Execute on Djinn Apprentice and defeat it, it proceeds to trigger Trample.
post-Execute: 4 damage to Djinn Apprentice = 2 health remaining
Execute: 4 damage to Djinn Apprentice = 0 health remaining
As a result, Muspelheim Demon also receive 4 damage due to Trample, resulting for a total of 3 attacks that was initiated in just 1 turn.
For the last battle, I used the summoner Nidhoggr which can give the Execute ability on up to 3 units during the Tactics Stage and give it to Chaos Dragon, Night Reaper and Twilight Basilisk which I have messed up the positioning as I run out of time. Regardless, I still won the battle and it was quite a fun battle to watch.
For example, when Night Reaper attacks Adelade Brightwing, not only that it defeats it but the Blast damage also inflicts 2 damage on Frigid Wolf which resulted for its health to drop to 2 and triggers Execute which inflicts another 4 damage into it and causes its defeat.
While at the same time, the blast has also inflicts another 1 damage to Iziar for a total of 2 damage .
On the other hand, we also have Chaos Dragon which upon inflicting damage 4 damage to Evelyn Auver, has initiated its Execute.
As a result, Eveln Auvera was defeated in 1 turn.
Closing
As a new ability that comes with Rebellion, Execute was only given on few cards but when the ability was triggered, it helps on finishing the target faster. The most fun that I had with this ability was when I was using Nidhoggr but given the debilitation, it only plays out well on niche rulesets.
Thank you and see you at the next post.

Great post! Funny how in the 3rd battle, the first Blast damage to Iziar did not occur until after Night Reaper's Execute!
Yeah... It was quite funny that only after both Adelade Brightwing and Frigid Wolf was defeated that the Blast damage finally took effect on Iziar. That's the first time that I see it that way.
It is a very good ability but it is rarely seen in ranked and if it is seen it is with Night Stalker because the damage it causes if activated is brutal, good post.
Also, there are just very few cards at the moment so if they make more Execute cards in the next set, we may see more battles in the future. Thanks for reading.
