By the seas, the city of Alcantari shimmered beneath the glow of the twin moons, its coral towers reflecting the hues of sapphire and pearl. The scent of brine and exotic spices mingled in the air as the city’s great harbor bustled with late-night traders unloading silks, enchanted pearls, and Azmarean gemstones. Yet, beneath the elegant façade of aristocracy and commerce, a secret war was waged—one that threatened the very foundation of the noble houses.
High Lady Vaeliana Faedinen, matriarch of the ruling family, stood atop the Azure Spire, her emerald eyes fixed upon the restless waves. Beside her, Admiral Callis Rimorfen, a grizzled sea elf who had survived a hundred tempests, delivered his report in a hushed voice.
"The Black Fangs grow bolder, my lady. Another merchant ship has vanished near the Celestine Reef. This time, they left no survivors."
Vaeliana’s grip tightened on the railing. The Black Fangs were no ordinary pirates. They were ghosts, or so the common folk whispered—an elusive fleet of rogue sea pirates and Azmarean outcasts who plundered with unnatural precision. But the High Lady knew better. They were led by someone who once belonged to Alcantari’s nobility.
Someone she had once called sister.
The Exiled Heiress
Long ago, before Vaeliana ascended to the High Seat, Alcantari’s nobility was shaken by the scandal of Sylwen Faedinen, her younger sister. Sylwen had challenged the Council of Houses, declaring that their devotion to diplomacy was blind to the brewing storm beyond their shores. She had pleaded for stronger naval defenses, for an armada capable of deterring the growing pirate menace. But her cries had been ignored, dismissed as paranoia and ambition.
When she defied the Council’s decree and took command of an unsanctioned fleet, she was branded a traitor and exiled. No one had seen her since. At least, not until the Black Fangs had begun their reign of terror.
A Secret War Beneath the Waves
"She’s testing us," Callis murmured. "Every ship taken, every sailor lost—it’s a message. She wants you to know she’s coming."
Vaeliana sighed. "Then we must send our own message."
That night, under the cover of a moonless sky, the finest shipwrights of Alcantari set to work forging a new vessel—one unlike any that had graced their waters. Carved from enchanted coral and laced with storm-forged mithril, the Tidebreaker would be the swiftest warship ever constructed, its hull infused with the blessings of Xelia herself.
At dawn, a crew of the most skilled mariners and warriors boarded the vessel. At its helm stood Captain Lirian Mallos, a daring commander known for his unbreakable will. His orders were simple: Seek out the Black Fangs. Bring Sylwen back—dead or alive.
As the Tidebreaker sailed beyond the horizon, Vaeliana whispered a silent prayer. The tides of Alcantari whispered in return, carrying secrets only the sea could know. Would this be the end of a sister’s rebellion, or the dawn of a greater storm?
