Introduction
I'm here to share my challenge blog post for the Share Your Battle Challenge. The theme featured this week is Dragons. Dragons are awesome and I will cover a battle using two awesome CL dragons Void Dragon & Chaos Dragon as well as share my opinion on them.
When To Use Dragons
Dragons are really good in a few situations from my experience. One is earthquake ruleset and the other is medium high-high mana battles so maybe around 50-99 mana. It can also be good in low mana sneak if Kelya is unavailable and if you don't have the funds to rent/own Lux Vega. Recently with a new ruleset where you can use range only, Quix is also a great dragon summoner to use with Zyvax Vuul as the frontline since it has close range at level 2. There's another strategy where you can use Void Dragon in low mana if you can predict that the opponent will play magic with Dr Blight; Void dragon is a good counter to Dr Blight at gold league and higher with phase. Dragons now are good with the triple rulesets as sometimes there's not enough cards available with just the normal elements but if you use dragon, you have additional cards to use since dragon can play with any element.
The Battle
I played this battle on my scholar account, bltzr-wizard-727. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in diamond modern league. The ruleset for this battle was target practice and fire and regret. It was a 54 mana cap battle with all elements available except life being banned. Usually in this ruleset Dragons would be quite strong since it's a medium high mana cap. Lux Vega would also be a good summoner too but sadly my account doesn't have it.
If you are wondering why I always share battles with my scholar accounts, this is because it's the only account that I play everyday so it's easier to do the challenge with this account. Anyways after this share my battle post, I will try to do these challenges with my main account since it will be more of a challenge than using my scholar account.
Discussing My Lineup
First Position, Arkemis The Bear - I chose Arkemis The Bear to be my frontline vs frontline tank since it's a target practice ruleset. Arkemis the Bear is probably one of the best tanks in the games since it gives armor to full team and has forcefield with insane attack, dodge and health stats. That forcefield is strong since even Giant Killer damage will get reduced to one damage.
Second Position, Baakjira - I Baakjira as my main tank for the magic attacks since it's one of the best tanks for non-melee monsters. I didn't expect the opponent to play range though as there's a return fire ruleset. Baakjira can self heal itself as well as cut magic damage in half; it's an awesome support monster that can buff my whole team by one health while slowing enemy team by one speed.
Third Position, Void Dragon - I chose Void Dragon to be the next in line tank for the magic/ranged attacks if my Baakjira died. Void Dragon is also a very strong tank against non-melee monsters but not as good as Baakjira since it can't heal itself. I also used Void Dragon so it can snipe the opponent's non-melee card.
Fourth Position, Deep Lurker - I chose Deep Lurker as an assassin. It's main job was to target low health carries. It also gives a good debuff by demoralizing the opponent and giving them -1 melee.
Fifth Position, Runi - The main purpose for Runi was to follow up the Deeplurker and assassinate low health targets. Since there was a chance the opponent carries would have armor, Runi is a good follow up to help ensure the low health carries die. My Runi was also a target for the opponents opportunity monsters since it had the lowest health on my team. Runi is awesome because it has rebirth which let's it revive itself so it can stall the opponent's opportunity monsters.
Final Position, Chaos Dragon - The purpose of Chaos Dragon was to be the monster DPS that can splash damage with the blast. It's also a decent counter to sneak since it has flying, armor and blind.
Did My Strategy Work? & Would I try differently next time?
Yes, my strategy worked. I actually thought I was going to lose when I saw the Lux Vega but my lineup pulled through and it might be because of RNG that I came out with the win. If you watched the battle, the opponent also played Baajira in the second spot which was probably to copy my plan to soak damage and stall against magic damage. The opponent chose to have more sneak and having my Chaos Dragon in the back helped stall these sneak creatures. I think my attacks were more targeted with the double opportunity which helped me clear his backline better. Anyways I think I won more because of the Chaos Dragon scattershot which is a bit RNG on who he aims. If I had to try something differently next time, I would use something to replace Void Dragon. Maybe another sneak monster like Pelacor Bandit/Uraeus or a Dr Blight to stop the opponent's Baakjira from healing.
Do I Dragons? Why Or Why Not?
To answer this, I do love dragons. They have the ability to play with any of the elements which gives them a lot of diversity; they have many possible lineup combinations due to that. They are awesome cards in terms of art and I own all copies of CL Dragons at level 1. To be honest, I think most people love dragons in Splinterlands as they are the cool cards of Splinterlands. It's like pokemon most of the popular pokemon aside from Pikachu are all dragons like Dragonite, Salamance, Garchomp etc.
