My First Steps in Splinterlands
Getting Started
Splinterlands looks amazing—the characters, the art style, the whole aesthetic—it’s all really cool. But to be honest? The game itself hasn't been the easiest thing to learn. I’m still in the tutorial phase, and I’ve won one battle so far.
I watched the tutorial video, which helped a little, but there’s still a lot I don’t understand. Mana? Splinters? Abilities? I have no clue what I’m doing yet. When it was time to pick my cards for my first match, I just copied what I saw in the tutorial. No strategy—just following along and hoping for the best.
My First Battle
For my first battle, I used Kelya Frendul as my summoner. For my first team, I picked:
-Diemonshark
-Flying Squid
-Disintegrator
-Deeplurker
I didn’t pick these cards because I understood their strengths—I just followed the tutorial. The battle played out, and somehow, I won. Cool, But I have no idea what just happened;
What’s Next? Buying a Spellbook?
After my match, the tutorial told me to buy a Summoner’s Spellbook for $10. This is the step I’m on now, and I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it. It unlocks ranked play and rewards. I'm sure that's where all the fun is.
I looked at the marketplace and saw cards being bought and sold—like Drybone Hobgoblin for $0.09—but I don’t know enough to understand what’s valuable and what’s not. Right now, I’m researching, thinking about setting a budget, and deciding if I even want to continue.
Plenty of Studying to do
I’m still at the very beginning, and I’m not sure how to feel about Splinterlands yet. But the community surrounding it is so big that I know it's something I can enjoy too. Many players have posted tutorials and more on here, and I have a lot to get through, but I think I can handle it.
This post is entirely original and based on my personal experience as a first-time Splinterlands player. The images are from Splinterlands; I took screenshots as I was unsure of what exactly is appropriate to show.
