With most card games there's abilities to level up cards and Splinterlands is no exception to this. However the system in which is done is easy to understand and powerful giving you a solid idea as to what it's going to take to level up your cards.
In this article I want to outline leveling up cards and a strategy I use to build rather solid decks that can go toe to toe with some of the more advance decks often getting me into Gold or higher tiers.
The Card Combining Breakdown
The model that splinterlands uses is what is know as BCX. This BCX number represents the amount of cards that have been combined into a card. For example you can combine cards into each other but not fully max out the rank thus no bonus until you hit the max.
So for example...
This card is level 4 with 8BCX currently on it. However in order to level the card I need a total of 12 cards or 12 BCX to do so to move it to level 5.
and the stats of this card show you how many cards you need to level it up as seen here. Take note this is a EPIC card so there's less cards needed to level it up compared to a common card which we will get into here next.
What It Takes
There are four levels of cards and then gold foils of each on top of them. Those being...
Common
Rare
Epic
Legendary
Each of these takes a certain amount of cards in order to max level the card.
A Common card for example takes 400
A Rare takes 115
A Epic takes 46
A legendary just 11!
My Strats
Now for me Legendries can be expensive but they do pack a punch. You could either go all legendary if you want but honestly I would say if you're new focus on Rare or Epic. Common is possible as well but they normally don't have as many great perks as the epic and rare cards which roughly end up coming out to close to the same price at the end of the day depending on the cards you get.
This is also what I do for soul bound cards from chests for playing the game. These rare chests cost a little more but you'll quickly have a much more powerful deck to fight and level up which is going to help you overall to level up that account faster and build a powerful system of cards.
How To Combine
Combining your cards are easy. Simply head into the game and click on Items > Cards. Use the side filter to find the card or cards you want to level up. Buy or earn those cards and then click on it.
From here click on ALL or check box the cards you want to combine. You'll notice a next level that shows how many cards you need for example 0/4 means I need to combine 4 cards to level it up.
However you can also combine cards even if you don't have enough to level it up just yet. You'll then notice for example if you combine say 2 cards you'll have a 2/4 tracker under next level.
There you have it! Get leveling, buy cards, win them, trade them and rent them out all to build your account better than ever. Also a quick note that land will be heating up in 2025 as well! You'll need cards and a plot of land if you want to take part and prices at the moment still feel rather cheap.
