What Survival Mode?
Unless you tried really hard to ignore it, you've probably heard a lot about "Survival Mode" lately. It's this new, upcoming mode of gameplay for #splinterlands. People seem to have different opinions about whether it's a good thing or bad thing for the game. Will it be an economic stimulus? Or will it be another problematic exploit? Personally, I could see it going both ways. I think we'll have to wait and see.

How about you, which side are you on? Team Survive? Team Anti-Survive? Team Idgaf? Feel free to discuss in the comments.
In general, if Survival Mode gives the overall game a better chance to "Survive" in the long-term, then I am going to be on Team Survive. For me, it's not really an ethical question, but more of an economic one. What's good for the game...
LAND integration with Survival Mode?

What?! Okay. Now I am loving Survival Mode 😍
I mean, it's probably not exactly what most people were picturing when they thought about minting magical "items" but yeah, at this point, allowing LAND owners to mint "Revival Potions" as the first magical item actually seems like a pretty amazing idea! If you're a LAND owner, you probably have that same feeling like "wen are we going to get to do some awesome things?" Well here you go.
This is literally the first time I've seen something plausible proposed by someone who actually has the power to make it happen. That makes me excited 😁 and it makes sense. I mean why are we doing all this RESEARCH in Praetoria if we can't brew up a little "Revival Potion" right?
What have your workers been researching? Hopefully they've been doing a good amount of potion work in those RESEARCH huts!
Assuming that Survival Mode does well and becomes popular, then LAND owners would be like the triage team healers. Future slogan: We bring cards back to life!

Will I Play Survival Mode?
No. But I'll probably bot it. Assuming that's allowed by terms of service and the legitimate, non-shady services support it.
I put @star-shroud back on auto-pilot (botting wild) for 2025 after handplaying modern last year. Jmo "time" is the only resource we can never get back, and based on what I see happening in Modern, spending the time and mental energy necessary to play modern fairly is not a good use of anyone's time right now 😭 Others will disagree but it ultimately comes down to how a game makes YOU feel when YOU play it. For me, it doesnt feel like Modern is being fought on a fair playing field right now, and it ruins the experience. That's just my story, my opinion. Others vehemently, aggressively disagree and that's fine 🙏 Either way, I'm done playing the game for now, until things change, which I doubt they ever will--at least not anytime soon.
Back to Botting
So... back to botting! From talking to folks behind the scenes, I believe Xbot plans to support Survival mode, and Archmage has yet to make an announcement. Whether it's "Survival Mode" or something else, I would like to see some additional utility for my cards--other than making endless alts.
I recently passed 25 million card power! I need something to do with these cards though 🤷♂
Conclusion
I wasn't all that excited about Survival Mode but I wasn't against it either. On balance though, if it gives the overall game a better chance to "Survive" in the long-term, and it paves the way for LAND owners to starting minting magical items, then I'm sold 👏
I have no issues with bots. In fact, it is great that bot developers share their expertise and make it more open. Rather than just select developers mining the rewards and experience. Good to hear xbot will support the new feature.
Makes sense. I've used bots a lot in the past. I don't necessarily think theyre good for the game overall--but also, probably I would have quit the game by now if bots didnt exist so, and I never would have bought so many cards ... so it cuts both ways I guess ?
I am not a fan of the survival mode. I think it is a wrong priority for the game now. It has no appeal for new players, and not for the majority of players who rent/own one deck with single copies of each card.
Sure, this brings additional utility for owning a lot of cards, but there are less time-consuming development options available for achieving that, like lowering the DEC stake needed for land to make that more about owning cards than owning DEC, or implementing that infinite land card staking thing we heard about (what a year ago or so?).
I'd rather see time spent on NPE, bringing leagues back and most importantly: Focusing on GUILDS!

Guilds are great if you can find like-minded folks! Not always possible for some of us. I'm in a guild of 1 person, only so I can get the guild bonus. Other than the bonus, I don't think a lot about guilds anymore. It's kind of sad 😌

Survival mode was not for me as I do not have multiple copies of cards and when my CL cards leave modern, I rather want them to work on land.
Land! Nice! That's the other thing I'm excited about! Maybe combining LAND and survival mode brings more economic stimulus?

ive gone from 4 - 66 land plots this year so getting into land a bit more.
as for survival, im not sure if i will play it. I have lots of cards, as i like to collect, but im not sure i have enough for more than about 20-30 games a season at low levels. (assuming i die a bit though lol) things run thin then. 100% i would need the cards separated from survival to (modern wild and brawls). or zero chance i play.
im watching the new mode carefully as it is certainly interesting.

Agreed about survival mode--i feel like i probably should be able to do okay with my collection, but there's still a lot i dont understand about how it will actually work. Obviously they'll be some big accounts that can throw their weight around, and I don't think I'm quite that. But still, hoping to find a niche in there if it makes sense 🙏
Yeah. i think some big accounts will throw weight, and lots of little accounts will rent 1bcx of everything. (rental market is going to go crazy i think). Im expecting some big movements arounds. Yeah i need to find a niche myself.
