Splinterlands VS the bots: 1 - 0
Hello everyone, a lot is already written about the last proposals which passed. Ofcourse I am talking about the the proposals 41 and 42 about Update Terms Of Service To Prohibit Use Of Battle Helpers in Modern Ranked, Tourneys, and Brawls. But still I want to add my thoughts aswell as it sparked my joy to begin playing Splinterlands again!
Since I started in 2021, I heard a lot of stories about bots being used in Splinterlands, but as a newb to the whole crypto and play2earn space, it didn't really bother me nor did I really think about it. Soon rather than later I started to see what people were telling. Mostly I played against names like chang1, chang2, chang3 etc. It made me wonder, is it really so bad with the state of Splinterlands?
I started to check out my battle history and saw that it indeed was full with the same names but a different number. So I was indeed playing against a botnet merely instead of players.
Is this really a problem? I used to play pve games aswell, so not that big of a problem, but when we're talking about play2earn games, I think it's a bit different. Even other games who didn't have the play2earn aspect were fighting bots as players were seeing those games as play2earn. I think for example about Runescape which I used to play when I was younger. It was an MMORPG where people had to gather money to be able to buy better equipment, armor etc. At some moments, the bots were also outrunning the real people in the numbers. For them it was a constant battle to get those bots banned, as they were making the hyperinflation even worse.
A few months ago I decided to log back in to Runescape and found out that they implemented a couple of new updates to deal with bots and other aspects like the hyperinflation. Besides adding sinks for the hyperinflation, they also managed to tackle the botting problem that used to be there heavily present.
When we look at Splinterlands, they are managing the problem in a healthy way aswell if you ask me. There are different sinks in place, think about upgrading the buildings for the guilds, think about the leveling of cards which reduces the amount of cards available. Also the soulbound cards which were invented to prevent that players only build decks using free cards are such an example to tackle the problems.
Often it's brought up that Splinterlands had a decrease in people and because of the crypto-winter it's way harder to attract new people. I'm not saying that I disagree, but I think that banning bots, could really help to attract new or old people who quit.
I have to admit, that I recently heard about the proposals and that they passed. Today I played my first game after months of not playing anymore. I'm sure it will be a step in the good direction to get rid of those bots.

How did I begin to play Splinterlands?
It all began in December 2021, I was a bit bored and was looking for a new game to play on my laptop. After googling a bit, I saw the term play2earn in my google results. I didn't know it at that time but it seemed awesome, earning money while playing games instead of spending money on those games. Soon I learned that play2earn means that you can indeed earn some money to play the games. How does it work? While playing those games, you can earn NFT's of those games. These NFT's can be traded and sold for cryptocurrencies which could be swapped for fiat if you would like to. That's how I started.

I am absolutely loving modern Champ league this season. I finally played myself up to Champ 1 with a few days left in the season. Currently sitting 20th on leaderboard. Life is good. Hbu?

The update made me restart playing again. Went from novice to bronze 1 in a couple of days. Should be able to achieve low gold. Maybe not this season as I started rather at the end but will soon be at my peak again.
Will just have to stake soms sps to try to get the most out of my multiplier.
