BACK TO BASICS
Many times, we tend to look down on units that don't have any abilities even though they can be really useful in a fight. Well, for this challenge, every ability has been stripped from the units and we're forced to acknowledge some of the units we have neglected in the past. Let's see if the units can perform well without their powers.
The Combat Rules
COMBAT RULES | |
---|---|
MODIFICATIONS | HEALED OUT, ARMORED UP |
ACTIVE SPLINTERS | FIRE, WATER, EARTH, LIFE, DEATH |
Normally I like to play a good number of magic units in the back to basics ruleset but in this battle, I also got the Lost Magic ruleset. I cannot use magic monster but I can still make do with ranged and melee monsters. I really just need strong ranged monsters for this battle.
LINEUP
SUMMONER | |
---|---|
NAME | GENERAL SLOAN |
SPLINTER | LIFE |
EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
RARITY | RARE |
LEVEL | 4 |
MANA COST | 4 |
BUFFS | +1 RANGED ATTACK |
I said that I really need strong ranged units and life has a good number of them. General Sloan is going to be a summoner to use for this battle. I wanted to use Ilthain because I know the enemy would use ranged units too but I don't have that summoner. I hope my opponent does not use Ilthain.
UNIT 1 | |
---|---|
NAME | BLINDING REFLECTOR |
SPLINTER | LIFE |
EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
RARITY | COMMON |
LEVEL | 5 |
MANA COST | 3 |
ATTACK | 1X MELEE ATTACK |
SPEED | 2X |
HEALTH | 4X |
TOUGHNESS | 5X |
ABILITIES |
Well, he cannot use his magic reflect ability but the 5X armor makes him a good tank for just 3 mana. Definitely a good one to put in front.
UNIT 2 | |
---|---|
NAME | SOUL FIEND |
SPLINTER | LIFE |
EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
RARITY | LEGENDARY |
LEVEL | 2 |
MANA COST | 0 |
ATTACK | 1X MELEE ATTACK |
SPEED | 3X |
HEALTH | 1X |
TOUGHNESS | 0 |
ABILITIES | NONE AT LVL 2 |
Next will be Soul Fiend just because I need units that will take hits before my ranged units get to the front line. This guy is merely just a dummy unit.
UNIT 3 | |
---|---|
NAME | GARGOYA SCRAPPER |
SPLINTER | LIFE |
EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
RARITY | COMMON |
LEVEL | 5 |
MANA COST | 1 |
ATTACK | 1X MELEE ATTACK |
SPEED | 3X |
HEALTH | 2X |
TOUGHNESS | 0 |
ABILITIES |
This guy is also there as a dummy unit so that the rest of the lineup can be preserved. I will be comfortable putting my attacking units at the back because there would be no sneak attacks.
UNIT 4 | |
---|---|
NAME | PORTAL SPINNER |
SPLINTER | LIFE |
EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
RARITY | RARE |
LEVEL | 4 |
MANA COST | 5 |
ATTACK | 3X RANGED ATTACK |
SPEED | 2X |
HEALTH | 4X |
TOUGHNESS | 2X |
ABILITIES |
Well, Portal Spinner will not be able to use her scattershot but she has some shield so I put her in fourth place. If it happens, that my tank and the dummies get taken out, this unit will be the next best one to be in the frontline. Plus, 4X attack after the buff from Sloan will be massive.
UNIT 5 | |
---|---|
NAME | SUPPLY RUNNER |
SPLINTER | NEUTRAL |
EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
RARITY | COMMON |
LEVEL | 5 |
MANA COST | 6 |
ATTACK | 2X RANGED ATTACK |
SPEED | 4X |
HEALTH | 5X |
TOUGHNESS | 0 |
ABILITIES |
Now, I have supply runner who cannot grant extra speed because of the ruleset. Still he should do quite well as a regular old unit.
UNIT 6 | |
---|---|
NAME | VENARI CRYSTALSMITH |
SPLINTER | LIFE |
EDITION | REWARD |
RARITY | RARE |
LEVEL | 4 |
MANA COST | 4 |
ATTACK | 2X RANGED ATTACK |
SPEED | 3X |
HEALTH | 5X |
TOUGHNESS | 0 |
ABILITIES |
Last but not the least is Venari Crystalsmith without her precious tank heal. I had to place this unit at the back because she has the lowest health among my ranged attacking units and no shield.
The Battle Highlights

Round 1:
- Sloan grants the ranged units an extra attack while the enemy use Jacek to grant 2+ speed, scattershot and piercing to his units.
- Quickly, the enemy's Supply Runner randomly takes out my Gargoya Scrapper. Scavo Hireling follows next with an attack on the frontline.
- My Supply Runner takes out the Radiated Scorcher.
- Crystalsmith throws blades at Tusk the wide who hits the Blinding Reflector.
- Portal Spinner and Blinding Reflector end the round with attacks on Tusk the wide.
Round 2:
- The enemy's Supply Runner starts with another random attack that kills my Soul Fiend.
- Scavo Hireling throws a blade that hits the Crystalsmith at the back.
- My Supply Runner and Crystalsmith take out Tusk the wide forcing the Hireling to the front who is swiftly destroyed by Portal Spinner.
- Now, the enemy's Supply Runner is at the frontline and there is no way to attack. He is struck by the Blinding Reflector.
Round 3:
- My Supply Runner and Crystalsmith finish off the enemy's last standing unit.

CONCLUSION
To be honest, I did not think I would win this battle because of the lack of magic monsters. Thankfully I was wrong and I won.
I was right to place the dummy units in the lineup because they served their functions very well. Because of these dummies, my attacking monsters took less damage in general.
I did not expect the enemy to use Jacek. I was a little bit worried about the piercing in the beginning but thankfully it all worked out for me.

Hello there.
Yes I agree that the challenge is tough because the rule sets come randomly. It can be really annoying when you finally get the ruleset but then lose that battle. Still, I think it makes the challenge a little bit more exciting.
Thanks for the comment. Happy EOS to you too!
