Splinterland's revenue opportunities are very versatile, as you've probably read in some other posts. Whether it's the pure DEC drops while playing or the SPS airdrops for holding game assets. The game offers you a great repertoire of revenue opportunities.
With this post I would like to draw your attention to another income opportunity, which in my opinion has been mentioned only very rarely, but has already flushed a lot of DEC into my pockets. This is the trading of cards. The basic principle is easy to explain: You buy a card so cheap and sell it so much more expensive that it brings you a decent amount of money in spite of the market fee.
How do you discover cards with trading potential?
At this time, when the Splinterlands community is growing steadily and there seems to be no end to the growth, you can virtually knock a few DECs out of any card, since the price will probably continue to grow as demand increases.
Still, there are cards that are simply better suited and likely to bring you higher profits. These are cards where demand far exceeds supply because the cards are very old and therefore rare, or are of high value play-wise, so many players covet them. A good example of this is Mylor Crowling. It cost about 8$ a few weeks ago. Now the price is around 28$.
Another good indicator that a card is being sold below value is a large gap between the asking prices. For example, a few days ago I spotted Baby Unicorn in gold for $9.20. There were 3 of them offered for that price. The next most expensive price was $13.55.
Since I didn't have enough money to buy all three, I bought one and expected the other cards to be sold after a relatively short time as well, because a discount of about 33% is rarely ignored for long. I was right, more so, the price of the card continued to rise in the following days. So I sold it 4 days after purchase for 18,80$. A profit of about 100%. Not that I couldn't have potentially gotten more out of it. The card is currently at about 29$. But since the sales were enough for me and I'm still at the beginning with Splinterlands anyway, I sold it as soon as possible after the first big price increase.
Develop a feeling for the market
A tip that is often underestimated. Logically, you want to jump right into the fray and make sales. But it can't hurt to keep in mind and learn about the 10-20 cheapest gold cards on average in my example. This way you will quickly notice when a card has strayed into the lower price segment.
It is a waiting game
I can't promise you that you will get a great deal every day. Nor can I promise you that for every week. There is, besides the preparation also a lot of luck involved, because the market is highly competitive with increasing numbers of players, which has triggered the whole price increase in the end.
If you're unlucky, someone will buy the bargain away from you right before your eyes (maybe that's even me ๐๐). Happened to me just the other day with a Sand Worm, which was offered about 30% below market price. Do not despair. The next bargain is sure to come and maybe it will have your name on it.
Use PeakMonster's bid tool instead of the ingame market
Through Peakmonster you can place bids for cards that will be automatically fulfilled as soon as someone puts the card on the market at your price.
Even more, you can sometimes get a much bigger discount if another person offers the card way too cheap and you don't even have to camp the market to do it, you can let PeakMonsters do it automatically.
Below you can see the completed bid for a Mylor Crowling a few hours ago. I created a bid of $23 (3054 DEC) on PeakMonsters, which was the high bid at that time. I then automatically bid it up for about 17$ (2268 DEC) with a 25% discount to my bid price. In the ingame market the price was about 29$ at that time.
Please note that I am neither a financial nor a Splinterland expert. I am still at the beginning myself and report here only from my experiences with the market. Nobody knows what the future will bring and in which direction the game will develop. So, like any other financial investment, there is always some risk involved.
If you are not yet a member of the Splinterlands community, feel free to join via my affiliate link. When you buy the Spell Book I will then get a part of the purchase price :)
