Beginner's Guide: Splinterlands Brawls

in Splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

Introduction
When I first started "The Furious Chickens" I looked far and wide for a beginner's guide for our first brawl. I couldn't find a thing! Nothing about how to start a brawl, how to enter battles, or what to expect. A plethora of questions met with dearth. I want to make sure all new guilds know what to expect going into your first brawl so they avoidi the intense anxiety I felt leading my guild members into an unknown battlefield. Here is what I wish I knew about Splinterlands Brawls before our first Brawl.

What is a brawl?
A brawl is an intra-guild battle amongst eight guilds that approximate your Guild's power level. Your guild wins crowns to purchase items helpful guild-wide items to use in future brawls, while individuals earn merits to spend in your guild's store; you can purchase items such as special packs containing cards for use only in future brawls. This deserves a blog post of its own, coming soon!

How do I enter my first brawl?
You must first have a level one Arena, currently priced at 10,000 DEC. Once your arena is completed, the guild leader will need to initiative your first brawl. I can't remember how to do this, but I know I had to do it because I was surprised when The Furious Chickens were automatically entered into all future Brawls! If i Had to guess, I think you navigate to the brawl tab and click "enter brawl."

You will have 48 hours to fill your frays, 48 hours to determine your lineups for battle, and 48 hours to revel in your victory before the next Brawl automatically begins.

What is a Fray?
A fray is a series of battle(s) a single guild member can participate in. Each fray has a different ceiling regarding the level of summoners and monsters you can use in those battles, as well as set limitations (Alpha, Untamed, Golden only etc.). The number of battles within a fray is determined by how many other guilds enter a member into that fray. As a participant, filling all your frays nets you more merits, so make sure you fill them all!

Your guild will have 12 Frays to fill. Not all frays must be filled to battle, but it is to your advantage to do so as this increases the total crowns earned.

How do I enter a fray?
You enter Frays during the "Prep Stage" of the Brawl, where you have 48 hours to fill available Frays.

To enter a Fray, navigate to your Guild's "Brawl" tab and click on the "Enter Fray" button and you will enter that fray.

Don't worry! You can leave a fray and join a different one if you accidentally join an all golden fray and don't have any golden summoner's. I maaaay have done this on my first ever Brawl. I counted as fleeing and earned no merits. It was a dark day for the leader of the Furious Chickens.

All you need to do is click on the three dots and a button will pop up that, when pressed, will allow you to leave your current fray and join another one.

When does the fighting start?
After the 48 hour prep stage, the "Combat Stage" begins! This is the 48 hour window when you pick lineups for all of the battles within your Fray. Each battle will have a different mana cap and different rules. Once both you and your oppenent have set their lineups, you can view the battle as well as the results. These battles are viewable for the entire Combat Stage.

What about the spoils of war?
As soon as the Combat Stage is complete, your guild receives crowns and guild members merits. The guilds with the top three scores earn crowns based on their ranking with first place earning 0-41 crowns, second place earning 0-32, third place earning 0-23, and fourth through eigth winning 1-3.

As you can see in the picture below, the merits you receive (remember these are individual guild member reewards) are tied to individual performance and total battles filled. If you fill a battle and your opponent does not, this counts as a win and a filled battle. We will talk about Brawl rewards in depth in a future post.

Throughout the entire process, you can see how your battles are going, how each guild member is fairing, and how your guild placed by navigating the "My Battles" "Guild" and "All" tabs.

Conclusion
As you can see, The Furious Chickens were triumphant in their first ever Brawl! And this, despite the fact that nobody knew what was going on and their leader (me) fled every single battle due to the inability to read good.

I hope this guide will help guilds achieve a similar result in their early Brawls, but with less uncertainty about the Splinterlands Brawl process.
