Welcome to Splinterlands fellow summoner! It's a good thing to adjust splinter depending on the mana cap, rules, and the opponent's previous choices to avoid lose streak. Some splinter will require more mana than the other, like Life Splinter which needs medium to high mana to make a decent lineup. As to battle rules, they rarely change until you reach at least a rating point of 500. Again, welcome and have fun.
