Namaste to all fellow players of Splinterlands!
This week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: π₯ Survival Mode Launch & Leaderboard Updates π₯ is about the newly introduced Survival Mode, where you can put your cards on the line of survival. This mode introduces a new challenge where defeated cards cannot be used anywhere until the season ends or the cooldown expires.
Welcome to Survival Mode!
This new mode in Splinterlands gives you a completely different kind of challenge in the game where after the season starts with a certain number of cards, every time your cards are defeated in any battle, you cannot use them in any next battle including brawls, land, tournaments, any format of ranked play, and so on until their cooldown is over or the season ends. This mode also has its own separate leaderboard where you can monitor your ranking.

How does it work?
On the Splinterlands battle page, where earlier you had 2 Wild and Modern modes, now a new mode has been added named SURVIVAL. As soon as you click on this mode, your battle mode changes and the screen looks something like this.

Here in the middle you can see the separate rating levels and tiers details of this mode because the rating levels are different in this mode, so your ladderboard is also completely different. On the right side you will see your available cards with which you can start battles in this mode, but the thing to note is that whenever any of your cards is defeated in survival mode, it will not be able to be used anywhere until the cooldown is over or the season ends. This is important to understand because this means that the cards that are defeated will not be allowed to play anywhere, including brawls, land, tournaments, any format of ranked play, and so on, until the cooldown period is over or the season ends.

Earning in Survival Mode-
You know that, on winning a battle in Wild and Modern mode, the winner's earnings include Splinterlands Governance Token SPS as well as Glint Rewards currency and League Advancement Chests. But on winning in Survival Mode, players will be able to earn only SPS Tokens for now, which is not bad at all, but it would have been great if the portion of that earning was a little more than the reward received on winning in Wild and Modern mode, because here the defeated cards are banned from being used anywhere for the entire season, which not only creates a big challenge for the players but also keeps them away from the game for a certain time. I don't think that would be a good thing for any game. Either these defeated cards would be restricted to use only in that mode, or the defeated cards would not be able to be used anywhere across the game until the season is over. But this is just my opinion if anyone pays attention to it.

To be ready for Survival Mode
This update relieves my concern about important cards being restricted until their cooldown is over. You can manually make your cards available or restricted for survival mode by going to your collection. In the image shown below, you can see this last option in the status section of the card, by clicking on it, you can make your important cards available or prevent them for survival mode battles, as I have shown the card shown below as prevented for survival mode.

Similarly, it is important that with the help of this option you choose the best level cards for survival mode because in that mode there are high chances that your opponent will bring better cards because this challenge is tough.

Things to be noted!
Here, the defeated cards will not only be restricted for the losing side, but even if you win, by the time you reach that victory, all your cards that would have been knocked out will be restricted for use anywhere until the cooldown is over. As you can see below in the log of one of my won and one lost battles, not only all the defeated cards of the losing team have been restricted, but the cards of the winning team which were defeated by the time the battle was won have also been restricted. That is why you should choose your cards for this mode carefully. Low-level cards can also be good if you want to keep your higher-level cards safe but if you do not have good cards then it will be difficult to survive in this mode. So choose good and right cards for yourself carefully.

I think this mode is only for experienced players because the difficulty level will be very high and managing cards will be a difficult task which will not be easy for any new player, but I also think that this mode will prove to be a big success in Splinterlands because despite the hardness of the challenge, battling in this mode will be a tough test of in-game strategies which will make the battles even more exciting.
That's all for today!

I have not tried the new survival game mode yet, but with mostly base cards, probably it would be quickly goodbye to my entire Splinterlands card collection for the current season.
I sold almost all of my Beta Splinterlands cards years ago.
Splinterlands was one of my favorite games in/around 2019, but it changed a lot (became worse and worse) in the previous few years that nowadays I very rarely play it.
I still try it from time to time to see whether anything in the game became better, or not.
Good luck and have fun.
