Prelude
Welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern where I look at how I crossed over from playing in Wild Battles till today focusing and getting more cards on Modern Battles, sharing with the community the struggles, the strategies and things I do to move towards playing in Modern. With the wrapping up of the sharing and review of the Soul Bound Reward cards from Rebellion set and due to Rebellion will become the main set that have sinked into the modern era when a new card set release into the modern group, there is still a need to have a good base of Rebellion core set cards. So with this, I will embark on reviewing 2 cards per week from the Rebellion Core set to discuss if you should be considering getting some of the cards to adapt to modern gameplay when the new set comes and Chaos Legion phases out. So let's get on with it and look at the 2 cards that we will review today.

Rebellion Core Set Cards

Similar to the previous post for this series, we will begin discussing card from the Rebellion Core Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed the Soul Bound reward cards, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and will give a simple review to whether or not investing into them will level up your game play or not. And let's continue by looking at 2 of the legendary cards from Rebellion Fire Splinter.

Chaos Golem

The first fire splinter legendary card that we will reviewing is the Chaos Golem. Since it is a legendary card, let's hope the stats and all justify itself to be on legendary tier. At 9 mana, it has quite a decent stat line be it armour health or even attack. But at level 1, this card is 1 dimensional, just a big stat line card and a relatively not very useful ability that serve as a nemesis to range attackers. Reason why I say it is not very useful is because not everyone will use a full range attack lineup and it is very rare to encounter. The card becomes more viable at level 2 onwards when it gets enrage at level 2 and retaliate at level 3. These 2 abilities will make it a tough card to face as an enraged Chaos Golem will have even higher inflated stats and in enraged mode, nobody would want to have a swing returned from it which can be fatal. So to me, this is a card that should not be kept just at level 1 but minimally level 2 if not 3 to get its fullest potential.

Rush Townsend

The next card we will look at will be Rush Townsend. When I look at this card, I am a little more excited than at Chaos Golem. While health wise, this card is not as sturdy as Chaos Golem, I like how good this card is with the ambush already available at level 1 and not just ambush, there is affliction. Imagine facing a line up with Iziar that gets healed up by neighbouring triage or a Quora that keeps healing, this ambush effectively lands a shut down on it right from the start. This card is top notch for disrupting those healing combos and with the high attack stats, will be a very good card to be included in your collection even at level 1. As it levels up, you will even get piercing to ensure no armour will get in your way. And maybe this card is the reason why Chaos Golem is needed to give the return fire.

Assessment
2 legendary cards, one better than the other I would say. The only drawback so far I see is the huge mana requirement for both of these cards which makes it kinda hard to always field them. One can be a big tank that can retaliate while the other is an expert marksman that can create an eternal wound that cannot be healed.

Rating wise for both the cards, I would say Chaos Golem deserves a good decent rating of 3.5/5 based on how this card having a very strong stat line that can allow it to fend on its own but becoming more impressive when levelled up while Rush Townsend will deserve a rating of 4.1/5 for due to the ambush and affliction abilities embedded on it at level 1 which can thwart many lineup that depend on heal to sustain through. When it levels up, it can even strike through armour and land some nasty range damage on opponent. Both cards are worthy to be included in collection though I would strongly recommend Rush Townsend over Chaos Golem in view of its utility and the presence of other strong tanks in fire splinter.

Wrap Up
I have started looking into the Rebellion core set cards that we need to start building up to prepare for the new set that will be coming in when Chaos Legion gets rotated out. I do hope that with the new set that will be launching soon, we can find back the vibrancy during the prime days where everyone was busy camping for cheap cards or scurrying through the rental market to get cheap rentals. Remember, if you are uncertain, there is training mode available for you to test these card out and try out how it can perform before purchasing or renting.

Let's continue to grow and find path in modern as we journey on playing Splinterlands.
