Prelude
Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. Today's challenge topic is on sharing of Community Tutorial and Tips. And for today, I would like to pick on the topic on climbing ranks and maximizing rewards. Hope this tutorial will benefit our new players that have recently joined us to play Splinterlands. While I am not an expert, my experience since November 2021 should have sufficient insights to be able to help players get a foothold in playing Splinterlands. So let's get right on with the tutorial.
Rank Climbing and Maximizing Rewards
Deck Building
This is something that must be done be it through owning or renting cards.
Focus or Spread? - This is something that new players always struggle. For me, the tip will be to work one that you are most comfortable with and able to win most frequently. For me, I started through building water splinter while the others I used the free cards that were available back then. And as I manage to earn more rewards, I started building the other splinters after moving my waters cards to at least silver capable. And when we focus, we need to ensure the summoners and cards are levelled up sufficiently to be able to complement one another. Levelling up cards without levelling up the summoners will end up using a lower level card due to the summoners cannot carry it.
Key cards - There are cards that thrive well for specific rulesets and these are cards that you might want to have them in your collection. Cards like Disintegrator, The Forgotten One etc are such cards that do really well in their specific rulesets such as Noxious Fumes or Melee matches. Oshannus is awesome for most matches, Moxian Rebel is a super versatile card that gives additional value to cards that have no attack. Queen Mycelia and Venari Wavesmith are good cards to get as well with the protect.
Building Core Base - While we do focus on key cards, we need to have a working base for the splinter that we want to build. Do prepare to have tanks, off tanks, healers and sneak/snipe cards from melee, range and magic so that we have cards to maneuver on and we can deal with all kind of ruleset that is being thrown at us.
Piecing up the collection with rental - Do not get all worried if you do not have enough to build up your single collection. There is always an option to rent and what better way to rent on things that you are lacking or waiting to purchase when the price is right.
Understanding The League You Can to Compete In
Now that you've built a decent deck. You need to know what league should you be competing in. With the changes that have come in recent times, there is no longer card level caps for each level. And with this blurred lines, it becomes a little harder in terms of landing where we want to land in the league. But for me, if you are competing with just level 1 cards all around, my take is to just keep yourself within the bronze league. If you have rare summoners in the range of level 3 with cards that is in that region as well, silver will do fine. If you have something even higher, then move higher. But if you see yourself going into a losing streak, you know that is not the league that is not the league that you should be competing in.
Outsmarting Opponents in Battles
Do not use a one size fit all kind of lineup. This is the most important when battling. While there are very strong lineup that can bulldoze almost any matchup, we need to be very mindful on the ruleset of each match. Putting the right cards in those rulesets are critical and there is a good chance that you will be able to outsmart your opponent.
If you are able to, have a fast speed lineup so that you can strike first and take out opponent before they return the favour.
Know what works for you and outsmart your opponent by guessing how your opponent will line their cards up.
Position is also important, martyr cards should be placed on location of easiest killed to boost your team. Otherwise, if you expect big hits from the back, some cards with shield placed at the back will do you good.
How To Get More Rewards
I have one very important tip for everyone especially on the accumulated Glint. Do not hoard it up too much and try to only spend when you have a huge amount. This is something that I regret doing previously. If you can, start gathering cards from Glint rewards whenever you can unless you wanna push for higher rarity cards. The reason for doing so is to ramp up your soul bound reward cards and have them do work for you to get more Glint and win matches. Instead of losing out on having these cards on the battlefield and slowly accumulate Glint, just keep exchanging more cards as you gather more Glint and it will snowball accordingly.
The more cards you have at higher level with accompanying summoners, the better you become. You can move up to higher leagues and gather more SPS which you should stake to earn more rewards. Gathering and staking SPS is important, so make sure you are involved in guilds and actively take part in brawls.
Continuous Improvement
Reading this tutorial does not immediately convert you into a Splinterlands expert. Meta do change and people come up with interesting lineups from time to time. Look through all your battles especially those that you lose, relook at why you choose the lineup and if you could choose something else that can win you the match.
The game is ever growing and changing. Do not rest on your laurels. Join a community too to make friends and learn from one another.
The last thing will be to time to time turn on training mode and measure yourself if you need an additional card or test out strategies/cards that you have in mind to purchase to see if it suits and fit your gameplay.
