Social Media Challenge || Mana Warden

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my post. In the Social Media Challenge, I will discuss anything about SPLINTERLANDS, it can be about cards, abilities, rulesets, battle reviews, End of Season results, or my playing experience.

I will share my battles using Mana Warden in this post.

Mana Warden

Mana Warden is one of the many promo cards SPLINTERLANDS offers in this REBELLION edition. The way to get Mana Warden is to buy it in the in-game shop using Vouchers. But currently, the promo is over and you can only find it (buy or rent this card) in third-party marketplaces.

Because it is a promo card, Mana Warden has a unique ability. The unique ability that Mana Warden has is SHIELD WARD which has been around since she was level 1. SHIELD WARD is an ability that will give additional SHIELD abilities to monsters in front of it. So that means that to activate this ability, Mana Warden is required to be in the second position (because SHIELD is one of the abilities possessed by the unit in the first position).

Unfortunately, Mana Warden does not have the REACH ability that Melee monsters usually have in the second position. For Mana Warden to attack, you need a ruleset that allows Melee monsters to attack from any position (such as SUPER SNEAK, MELEE MAYHEM, MANEUVERS, and EQUAL OPPORTUNITY) or choose a monster that has the FLANK ability to fill the first position. FLANK ability will give REACH ability to the monster behind it.

At level 4, Mana Warden gets the IMPEDE ability. Although not a special ability, IMPEDE is one of the new abilities introduced in the REBELLION edition. IMPEDE is an ability that will reduce the maximum SPEED of the target by 1 point every time it successfully hits it. The way IMPEDE works is the same as the CRIPPLE ability, and the only difference between them is which part will be reduced when the ability owner successfully injures the target.

At the last level (10), Mana Warden gets the PIERCING ability that can penetrate the ARMOR of the target. The meaning is that if the Attack power of Mana Warden is greater than the amount of ARMOR of the target, then the rest will reduce the Health points of the target.

The ruleset for this battle is AIMLESS (all monsters in the arena receive an additional SCATTERSHOT ability), MANEUVERS (all monsters in the arena receive an additional REACH ability), and FIVEALIVE (Players are only allowed to select a maximum of 5 units in this ruleset)

In the first round, Scavo Hireling and Aves Sturgis aimed their attacks at Halfling Refugee and managed to defeat him. Silverblade Fighter and Mana Warden attacked Drybone Barbarian but they were countered by his RETALIATE ability. Prismologist also tried to attack Drybone Barbarian, but her attack missed.

Drybone Barbarian damaged the remaining ARMOR of Silverblade Fighter and was followed by Iziar who also targeted Silverblade Fighter. Sola Ranjell healed some Health points from Drybone Barbarian. Then she and Spirit Hoarder target their attacks at Prismologist.

In the second round, Silverblade Fighter and Mana Warden attacked Drybone Barbarian again. But this time, only Silverblade Fighter was hit by a RETALIATE from Drybone Barbarian. Scavo Hireling and Aves Sturgis targeted their attacks at Iziar. Meanwhile, Prismologist attacks Spirit Hoarder and deals additional damage through the BLAST ability to Drybone Barbarian and Iziar.

Drybone Barbarian defeated Silverblade Fighter. Iziar targets his attack at Prismologist. Sola Ranjell healed Drybone Barbarian again and attacked Mana Warden (who now filled the first position) along with Spirit Hoarder who previously healed Iziar as well.

In the third round, Scavo Hireling repaired Prismologist's ARMOR then he attacked and defeated Spirit Hoarder. Iziar targeted his attack at Aves Sturgis but it only damaged his DIVINE SHIELD .

Mana Warden and Prismologist defeated Drybone Barbarian. Iziar took additional damage from the attack. However, he was healed by Sola Ranjell who then attacked Mana Warden. Previously, Sola Ranjell received an attack from Aves Sturgis.

In the fourth round, Scavo Hireling repaired Mana Warden's ARMOR and then he defeated Sola Ranjell. Iziar who was now the remaining unit on the opposing team took damage from the attacks launched by Mana Warden, Prismologist, and Aves Sturgis.

Although Iziar had attacked Mana Warden at the end of the fourth round, he was defeated by Scavo Hireling and Mana Warden in the fifth round.

Battle Review

The reason I used Silverblade Fighter which has the FLANK ability despite the MANEUVERS ruleset which gives the REACH ability is because Silverblade Fighter has the PROTECT ability which gives an additional 2 ARMOR to all units in the team (after previously getting an additional 1 ARMOR from Grandmaster Rathe).

It will also be beneficial for Silverblade Fighter because he now has a lot of ARMOR and coupled with the SHIELD ability he gets from Mana Warden's SHIELD WARD to protect him from attacks that will be launched by the opponent's Melee or Ranged monsters.

But behind that advantage, there is Mana Warden who does not have any protection if there is no additional ARMOR from Silverblade Fighter and Grandmaster Rathe. Therefore, extra protection is needed for monsters that fill the first position by bringing monsters that have abilities such as PROTECT , REPAIR , and TANK HEAL so that they can survive longer and prevent Mana Warden from filling the first position.

I bought one also using Vouchers, but I haven't used it, even though it has very good features.

That's good, but I don't think level 1 is enough because he has 3 HP that can be targeted by OPPORTUNITY units.
