A new week, so a new challenge in the Splinterrealms. And this week we'll dive in to battle with the Unprotected ruleset.
Ruleset
So with this, all armor points will be removed. These includes the armor of the cards itself, by the summoner, or by having a card with the Protect ability in your team.
Playstyle, defense and what not to choose
Where i normally add a card or 2 of magic to avoid my opponents armor, we can now go full melee attack. And that also what we need to defend against. So playing cards adding Thorns to counter or Shield to defelect attacks are the way to go.
Abilities to avoid in this ruleset are:
- Summoners: Avoid the ones removing armor, like Eternan Brune or Wizard of Eastwood.
- Void Armor: You can't deflect if you don't have armor to deflect too.
- Protect: Simply doesn't work here.
- Piercing: Works against, armor only, so well you get the point.
The line-up and Battle
For this battle i picked Death as a splinter with the following line-up
Thaddius Brood as summor because it lowers the opponents Health and Magic.
Cursed Windeku: Great opening monster, with Thorns to counter the melee attacks.
Corpse Fiend in second position as a filler card to give more space to my ranged attack card in the back.
Dhampir Stalker in last position. I chose this because of it's high attack and True Strike so it can't miss it's opponent. |
The Battle
My opponent had the strategy to attack the back with sneak attacks, so the choice of the Dhampir Stalker worked out. It's somewhat higher life points managed to survive the attacks in round one while damaging my opponents Cursed Windeku enough to be taking out in round 2.
Here i was also lucky to be the first to attack removing the windeku by my stalker, and my windeku attacking first hereafter, taking out the monster in second position.
This made sure the last monster of my opponent attacked the windeku and thereby damaging itself enough to be taken out in round 3.
Toughts about the strategy chosen
As mentioned above, i got lucky my team could attack first leading to a victory in this battle. If this wasn't the case chanches are they could have taken out my melee monsters, leaving the Dhampir Stalker left to be defeated.
