Day 5: Life!

Welcome back to the CL Silver Review series! We're at the Final Splinter! While tomorrow we will be covering Dragon + Neutral cards, the Life Splinter is the last of the main 5 to cover, and certainly not least! If you've missed the review for a Splinter you want to try out, you can see find it below:

The Life Splinter

Like yesterday, before we start I'm going to give a brief overview of the Splinter. Life can be one of the more varied classes in this game, with a lot of versatility in both the Summoners and the Monsters. Previously, one of the best Life decks was the Lorna Shine Inspire and Sneak Melee deck that dominates the Bronze and Silver leaderboards. This is still extremely strong and received new support in Chaos Legion. But General Sloan also opened up a whole new way to play Life: Ranged Damage. +1 to Ranged is an extremely strong Summoner ability, but it can be tough to play. Ranged Monsters can't attack from position one normally, meaning your Damage can go down dramatically if your Tank is defeated. However, there are a lot of strong Supports in Life to prevent that too - by increasing Armor or HP of your Tank. This leads to Sloan being a more difficult to play Summoner for beginners, but extremely strong. Sloan is my sleeper Summoner pick of the CL set, and also at the time of writing the cheapest. While I'm not suggesting you rush out and buy up Sloans, I wouldn't be writing off the Life Splinter just yet..

With this in mind, there are once again 2 Archetypes to consider in this Splinter. However unlike Death, neither of the options is going to swing more heavily in the cards favour. Instead, I’m going to be looking at what I believe are the 5 best stand alone cards in Light that everyone’s collection should feature.

Number 5: Celestial Harpy

First up, Celestial Harpy. While this card truly shines in the aforementioned Melee Lorna deck, any time you can get 1 Damage per Mana Cost you’re doing pretty well in my book. Add Opportunity on and you’re looking at a Backline Sniping, Mana efficient monster, and at Rare, this is a no-brainer to pick up and Level to the max.

Number 4: Time Mage

Another Rare at Number 4, Time Mage has 2 Magic Damage and - very standard for the 4 Mana mages in this game. What sets this one apart though is her ability in Slow. Already rocking 5 Speed, this gal is almost guaranteed to be moving before the opponent’s team, and helping the rest of your Monsters strike first too!

Number 3: Dax Paragon

Now I have to confess - this card went under my radar. But thanks to @hanam1 on Discord, I’ve seen just how powerful Dax is! For only 2 mana, Amplify is an amazing effect to be able to slot into your team cheaply. The Life Splinter in particular has a lot of Magic Reflect Monsters like Blinding Reflector and Pelacor Conjurer, which makes this card even more powerful! These cards also all fit into Little League, making a nice Anti-Magic package in that ruleset! Dax is an incredible little card, and gaining Amplify at Level 2 means that even in Bronze he’d be worth investing in, let alone Silver!

Number 2: Adelade Brightwing

In what is becoming a theme in these lists, the Legendary that is not a fiend makes it into the Top 5 again. These cards aren’t expensive and high-rarity for no reason clearly! Adelade has a very loaded kit - She outputs solid damage, she has good HP and flying to stay alive, and then her Abilities: Repair and Resurrect! Your Tanks are going to be much harder to kill, and the first time a Monster on your team dies, for example if a Damage Dealer gets hit by Opportunity, it will come back! Adelaide is a very loaded card, and should be Levelled up to the max for your Tier.

Number 1: Prismologist

However as loaded as Adelade’s kit may be, it can’t make it to Number 1. And that’s because the Prismologist is just so incredibly powerful. With Sloan, she has 5 Ranged Damage alongside Blast Damage! The Blast will be doing 3 Damage, meaning an attack on the Frontline Tank will be a total of 8 Damage, and in rulesets that give her Snipe, she can do 11 Damage with just a single shot! The Prismologist really pushes Sloan up in power levels by herself, and is such an incredibly powerful card that anyone looking at the Life Splinter should max it out ASAP!

Looking Forward

We’ve covered all 5 main Splinters! Tomorrow we’re combining Dragon + Neutral. I’m still working on the list, but it’s possible we may have a couple extra entries due to the amount of cards we’ll be looking at!

After that - I’m not sure what content I’ll be looking to create, but I have been so thrilled with the feedback on this series that I’d love to make this a more regular thing! If you have anything you’d like me to cover, let me know below, or I will try to find stuff relevant to you guys!

If you’ve enjoyed this series, please consider upvoting this post, and the others, and sharing it. It really helps me know it’s being appreciated and that people would like me to make more as much as I would like to create it!

See you tomorrow for the final part of this series!
