Thank You Chaos Legion!
Today was a big milestone for me today - I will no longer have to rent any cards to play in Silver! This will be a significant daily saving that I can put towards accumulating an even bigger collection. I would not have been able to do this without Chaos Legion and the General Sale making cards, and power, so cheap! If you're wanting to own your own decks, now is the best time! We're going to take a look at what I've bought, why I bought them, and what I want to save up for in future, to hopefully help you guys decide what you want to own going forward!
Collection Building Principles:
I had a specific way in mind I wanted to build my collection. My priority list went as follows:
- Levelled Summoner
- Tanks
- Carries
- Supports
I also wanted to have at least 2 playable Splinters going forward. This would be a limiting factor. I could have built one Level 4 Summoner, but I instead chose to build one at Level 3 and another at Level 2. This made me less reliant on one strategy - meaning I'm less predictable, and have something to play if it's banned! With that said, I still focused a lot of my resources into one Splinter, and I chose Fire as my Level 3:
I chose Fire because I think Tarsa is undervalued as a summoner. I was able to pick her up for a whole dollar less per BCX than I could buy Obsidian or Kelya, which left me more DEC to put into the actual cards themselves. I also chose to future-proof my collection to an extent, taking the priority commons to Level 5. They are cheap collection power, and I plan to Level my Tarsa to 4 slowly.
Big purchases for this class outside of Tarsa were the new Airdrop card, Grum, and the Fiend. These are both cards I expect to be higher value in future, as they are both extremely powerful Legendaries for the class, and for now they will boost my win rate I'm sure!
A Second Splinter: Sloan!
For my Level 2 Summoner, I chose General Sloan. At under $3 a BCX, it felt like a no brainer! The cheapest Summoner, but not the weakest in my opinion, I see a lot of value in the Life Splinter as a whole. Because of this, I went shiny in this class! I wanted to have cards available for Gold Foil Frays in my Guild, and also that extra 10% DEC in Ranked battles! The gold cards are super cheap right now, and I see their extra price as a small investment I will recoup over time.
Outside of Sloan, this deck is cheap: Even the most expensive card in the Gold Portal Spinner came in under $5. This is a solid base to work with, and while not the most crazy Life deck possible, very good value for the price.
The Supporting Cast!
I picked up Neutral cards first, as there are some crazy undervalued neutral cards in this set in my opinion, as I wrote about in my previous post! I am by no means finished picking these cards up - as I want to max these out for Silver play, due to their versatility to be played when I eventually level up all Summoners. They are also great collection power - especially the currently cheap Golds!
The Other Splinters
While I do plan to level these summoners up, I don't want to throw a lot into money into the decks for them while my summoners are low level. I see a lot of value in the Level 1 Water Deck, and so have picked up 1 BCX copies of Kelp Initiate, Axemaster and Djinn Oshannus for when I am forced into Kelya. Outside of that, I don't plan to play these Splinters much until they are levelled, so the collections contain a few pack pulls or very cheap Collection Power I picked up:
So What's Next?
The top of my wishlist is a Quix the Devious! This is another flexible card, and will give me access to the levelled cards I do own in the other Splinters. After picking him up (And hopefully levelling him to Level 2!), I will be trying to max my Tarsa and Sloan out. Having 3 competitive Splinters should give me enough to play in most of my Ranked games! After I have picked Quix up, I will likely start to focus on saving up for Riftwatchers. I would love to be able to open a lot of my own packs for that expansion, so I need to start accumulating SPS now!
What Does Your Collection Look Like?
I would love to know! What are you picking up, have you hit any personal milestones recently, or are you still holding on for cheaper prices (Hopefully!)? let me know in the comments below, lets get a conversation going!
See you all next time, and as always, good luck in your chests and packs!
Great post, I love your formatting. Congrats on making 15k CP, that's a big milestone! I am quite a bit behind you but am also making Fire my first priority. My current plan is to work on Water next, but your choice of going for Life in order to take advantage of cheaper summoner costs is making me wonder if I should reconsider that - those summoners aren't cheap, and make up a significant portion of the deck cost!
I would definitely recommend thinking about Sloan! Besides the summoner itself being cheaper, a lot of solid Life cards are cheap too. For less than $10 Adelaide is a steal, I’m hoping to pick one of her up too!
