Lily Shieldpaw arriving in Splinterlands!

in Splinterlands2 years ago

26th February 2023.

The craziest card in Splinterlands has just arrived.

It's cute.
It's colourful.
And it comes with mean posture.

We are talking about Lily Shieldpaw, the newest and last summoner of Chaos Legion.

The Artist

You may have realised that Lily doesn't look like most of the usual summoners and monsters we have.

You may wonder why is such a cute creature doing in the brutal, unforgiving landscape of Splinterlands.

If you look deeper into the eyes, you may get a sense of déjà vu knocking on your door:

That's right. The artist for Lily Shieldpaw is none other than @byzantinist, the artist for the infamous Byzantine Kitty.

We may have a cute petting zoo of legendary summoners in a few years time.

Lily Shieldpaw's abilities

What Lily brings to the table is absolutely refreshing.

+1 HP
Camouflage your entire team.
Triage

At first glance, granting the entire team Camouflage seems superfluous.

The Splinterlands team has spoken out that the idea here is to protect the backline above and beyond what a Taunt monster can provide.

Having Camouflage on everyone forces the enemy team to engage your lineup one by one from 1st to 6th position, disregarding Sneak/Snipe/Opportunity abilities.

Community's feedback on Lily

The general senses from our community is that most of us are not impressed by Lily.

We are used to the Dragon Splinter being speedy and deadly, with Byzantine Kitty being the prime example.

And we have no idea how to manage the Camouflage ability very well.

Initial thoughts

I'm not sure we can write off Lily Shieldpaw so quickly.

The truth is that Camouflage is a relatively new ability that we are not seeing much of.

The only notable card that abuses this ability is Doctor Blight with his Scavenger ability.

Time will tell whether Lily Shieldpaw will outclass his contemporaries like Byzantine Kitty and Quix the Devious.

Will you consider getting Lily Shieldpaw?

Will you fall prey to his menacing posture?

Or will the cuteness of his 2 friends distract us from his potential?
