What is a Chaotic Kobold Mining Expedition Tournament

Its the most beginner friendly competition that Splinterlands has at the moment. Looking at the requirements, you need 1492 SPS staked, 720 Power and it cost 20 DEC if you are currently in the Bronze League.

The reason why this is so beginner friendly is because there is a novice league cap, no legendaries and only Chaos Legion card. Novice League means that only level 1 cards can be used and since its only Chaos Legion, we already get Common and rare Chaos Legion cards in the starter deck which means you only need to rent epic cards to be competitive.

Now, lets look at the different splinters to see which ones you should be using for the different mana and rule sets

Fire Splinter

Looking at the available cards at hand, melee and magic are the 2 that really stand out the most. For Melee, the only disadvantage you have is that you only have 2 minions with sneak/reach/opportunity which means only 3 melee monsters at max can attack hence i would only use Melee if the mana is low so that you can make the most of the melee monsters or if there is a Melee Mayhem, Super Sneak and Equal Opportunity which allows Melee to attack from anywhere

Fire is the only splinter that has a monster (forgotten one) that has immunity at level 1 making it one of the best Noxious Fumes cards to use. The other splinters only have cleanse which they have to sacrifice a minion to remove poison from the tank

Water Splinter

Water has really good melee monsters along with a heal and cleanse monsters. They have a bit of magic and a bit of range but honestly, nothing to fantastic. I would only suggest using water if its Stampede,Melee Mayhem, Super Sneak and Equal Opportunity. Very similar to Fire. Have not had much success with water in the Tournament so would recommend staying away if possible

Earth Splinter

Anything with magic generally does really well in these low level Tournament due to the lack of anti magic abilities. As such, using any of the magic monsters will usually put you in a advantageous position. Earth has really good tanks as well which will give extra support for the magic monsters. Nature really shines in Reverse Speed, Equalizer, Keep your distance, Fog of War, Amored Up and Earthquake

Best card of the entire set at level 1 is Regal Peryton. With the 5 speed and flying, the amount of misses against this is insane. With not many flying monsters available, Earth is probably the best Earthquake splinter out there

Life Splinter

Life has really good range minions at level 1 with PRISMOLOGIST and PELACOR ARBALEST provided huge amounts of damage from the back. Life shines in rulesets that help range such as Close Range, Fog of War, Equalizer, Explosive Weaponry, Target Practice and Aim True. Life also does really well for Little Leagues, with multiple Low Mana Magic Mnions like TEMPORAL MASTER, TIME MAGE and DAX PARAGON along with solid minions like STITCH LEECH and CELESTIAL HARPY make it a really good option for Little Leagues.

Death Splinter

Death is in an interesting spot. They sort of do a bit of everything but doesnt dominate. Cards like RIFTWING, SILENT SHA-VI, MAGI NECROSI and CURSED WINDEKU are really good on their own but Death lack support cards which makes them very vulnerable. Death is good at countering the other opponents. There isnt really any ruleset that i would immediate jump on Death but it has served well when called upon.

Neutral Splinter

DISINTEGRATOR is one of the cards i use in almost all high mana matches becasue of Demoralize. XENITH MONK is probably the best little league tank out there so adding here in there will boost your tank position. MAGI OF CHAOS is great to add into your Nature Magic team as well.

Overall, other than DISINTEGRATOR, XENITH MONK and MAGI OF CHAOS, all the rest are very situational.

In Summary

Chaotic Kobold Mining Expedition Tournament is really fun and beginner friendly. It only cost 20 DEC to join and you really do learn alot from playing in it.

Hopefully my tips and tricks will help you excel in the tournament. Do let me know in the comments below if it has.
