Combining cards in Splinterlands is important for upgrading them, as it increases their stats, unlocks new abilities, and boosts their overall power. Today I will guide you on how to combine cards and what card set should prioratize. Higher-level cards can perform significantly better in battles, providing a strategic advantage, especially in higher leagues where advanced abilities and stats are critical for victory. By combining duplicate cards, you maximize their potential and strengthen your deck for various rule sets and challenges.
BCX number cards required
In Splinterlands, BCX stands for "Base Card Experience" or "Base Card Exchange." It refers to the number of copies of a card that have been combined to create the current version of the card.
Here’s how BCX works:
Each card starts with a BCX of 1 when it's first acquired.
To level up a card, additional copies of the same card need to be combined, increasing the BCX.
The total BCX of a card determines its level and the abilities it unlocks.
A Common card requires 400 BCX to reach its maximum level (Level 10) while gold foil needs only 38 BCX.
A Rare card of 115 BCX is needed to reach the maximum level (Level 6) while gold foil needs only 22 BCX.
An Epic card of 46 BCX is needed to reach the maximum level (Level 6) while gold foil needs only 10 BCX.
A Legendary card requires only 11 BCX for the maximum level (Level 4) while gold foil needs only 4 BCX.
Combining Cards
Combining cards is pretty easy, here I will show step-by-step how to combine cards:
Access Your Collection: Navigate to the Splinterlands card collection page. Navigate ITEMS and select Cards.
Selection of the Card: Click on the card you want to upgrade.
Check Requirements: Review the number of duplicate cards required for the next level.
Combine Cards: Click the "Combine" button to merge the duplicates and upgrade the card.
Confirm: Verify the upgrade and finalize the combination process. Some may need a hive keychain to confirm.
The Advantage of Leveling Cards
Leveling up cards in Splinterlands provides numerous benefits, including enhanced stats such as increased attack (range, magic, and melee), health, speed, and armor. It also unlocks powerful new abilities unique to higher levels, giving players a strategic advantage, especially in competitive matches like higher leagues. Leveled-up cards have a higher rarity value, strengthening your collection and potentially increasing their resale value in the market. These improvements make leveling up important for players aiming to build a competitive deck and maximize their rewards. Though some may be expensive such as if you lack a certain number of copies.
Which Cards should Prioritize
When deciding which cards to prioritize for leveling up, focus on those you frequently use in battles and that perform well across multiple rule sets for versatility. Consider cards with abilities that maintain their utility as you progress to higher leagues, ensuring they stay relevant in more competitive gameplay. Take into account the current meta and prioritize upgrading cards that effectively counter popular strategies, giving you an edge against common tactics.
For starters, if you played in Modern League then I recommend buying or renting a Chaos Legion (Core & Reward) set as they are abundant, widely used, and offer solid value for leveling up in the game. These cards provide a strong foundation for your deck due to their versatility, offering a range of abilities and synergies that can fit various strategies. By combining these cards, you not only strengthen your deck but also increase their BCX and unlock additional abilities.
Following up with purchasing Rebellion reward cards in the Glint shop is a smart move because they are the latest addition to the game, offering fresh abilities and potential synergies that could enhance your deck even further, ensuring your collection remains competitive and up to date with the evolving update splinter lands.
Here's my deck which I commonly use in most of the battle in Modern League. And despite overpower in higher leagues I can still able to match up with them with luck, and well strategy synergies of rule set.

Strategies for acquiring extra cards to combine
Like Glint Shop where you earn glints per win and the season ends then buy rebellion reward cards that provide extra copies that can be used for upgrades, and Guild Store where you can buy Gladius case and get some Gladiator cards.
While purchasing duplicate cards from the marketplace is a quick and easy way to boost your collection (I recommend using Peakmonster for more detailed info on sellers, bids, and stats of the cards). Renting or buying packs allows you to acquire cards for leveling up, and participating in tournaments can get valuable cards as rewards. If you have a friend (player), trading with them is a great way to exchange unused cards for duplicates that are needed to combine and level up your cards.
