Good day everyone and the Splinterlands community. Today's Blog highlight will be Katrelba Gobson in Are You Not Entertained? rule set. This time, we're focusing on the useful common card, Katrelba Gobson, and exploring effective strategies for utilizing this powerful character in low mana cap rule sets. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting, these tips will help you maximize Katrelba Gobson even in level 6 with unique abilities to dominate your battles in low mana cap rule sets.

In my gameplay, I rely on my main account, Zactian, where one of my standout cards is Katrelba Gobson, an Earth-element Gladiator card at level 6. This card is incredibly powerful, especially for a common rarity, as it unlocks more abilities and boosts its stats at this level. Katrelba Gobson's useful abilities include Bloodlust, which makes it stronger each time it defeats an opponent, Sneak for targeting the opponent’s backline, Double Strike for attacking twice in one turn, and Sanare for healing itself or others. It's a formidable force in the arena with 3 melee damage, 3 speed, and 4 health.

The card's combination of abilities makes it especially useful for sneak attacks, a strategic playstyle focused on picking off weaker enemies from the rear. Its Double Strike ability amplifies its damage output, and when paired with the Bloodlust effect, Katrelba Gobson quickly becomes a relentless attacker. It performs best in melee-only rule sets, where its powerful strikes and speed can dominate the battlefield, making it a crucial card for players who thrive on aggressive, tactical gameplay.

Quix the Devious

Decreases opponent both speed and range attacks.

I plan to use the dragon element as I want to deploy Vruz from this dragon element and utilize Vruz's ability Martyr to boost my Katrelba Gobson. This is also a good choice as I want to control speed difference, and hoping I have a speed advantage and will attack first before my Vruz is defeated. I expect that the opponent will also try to use some Gladiator cards.

The rule set given is Are You Not Entertain?, Broken Arrows, and Healed Out.

My Simple Plan Line up

First position - Gargoya Lion
  • In the first position, Gargoya Lion acts as a durable tank, able to absorb significant damage from both melee and magic attacks. Its Flying ability increases its chance of dodging non-flying units, while Void offers excellent protection against magic damage. Once it takes damage, the Enrage ability boosts its attack power and speed, turning it into a much stronger offensive threat. This combination makes Gargoya Lion a highly effective front-line unit that can hold off enemy assaults while setting up the rest of the lineup for success.
Second position - Chaos Agent
  • Chaos Agent in the second position adds an element of unpredictability to the defense. Its Dodge and Phase abilities give it a high chance of avoiding both physical and magic attacks, making it hard for opponents to land a hit. When enemy attacks miss, the Backfire ability triggers, dealing damage back to the attacker, allowing Chaos Agent to contribute offensively while still holding its ground. This makes it a great secondary tank that can frustrate opponents while still protecting the rest of the team.
Third position - Fungus Fiend
  • Fungus Fiend occupies the third position as a low-cost but strategic addition to the lineup. Its primary role is to slow down the enemy team with its Slow ability, which reduces their speed, giving my units a better chance to strike first. Despite costing 0 mana, Fungus Fiend plays a crucial role in tilting the battle in my favor by controlling the tempo of the match, allowing my damage dealers to strike more effectively.
Fourth position - Uraeus
  • In the fourth position, Uraeus functions as a secondary melee damage dealer with a strong focus on sneak attacks. Its 3 melee damage and the chance to poison enemy targets make it a deadly force, especially when targeting the opponent's backline. Paired with Katrelba Gobson, Uraeus amplifies the sneak attack strategy, softening up enemies before Katrelba steps in to finish them off. The combination of poison and sneak ensures that the opponent's vulnerable units are quickly eliminated.
Fifth position - Katrelba Gobson
  • Katrelba Gobson, placed in the fifth position, is the core of my sneak attack strategy. As the main damage dealer, it excels with its Bloodlust, Sneak, Double Strike, and Snare abilities. Bloodlust increases its power with each kill, while Double Strike allows it to hit twice per turn, making it extremely dangerous. The Sneak ability ensures that Katrelba focuses on the opponent's backline, and Snare guarantees that flying enemies can't escape. At level 6, Katrelba becomes a powerhouse that grows stronger the longer the battle lasts.
Last position - Vruz
  • Vruz in the last position provides additional support with 2 melee damage and the Sneak ability, making it another contributor to the sneak attack strategy. Its Martyr ability boosts the stats of adjacent allies when it dies, ensuring that even in defeat, it benefits the team. Meanwhile, True Strike ensures that Vruz never misses its attacks, maximizing its efficiency in taking out enemies.

Selecting a useful ability in this battle with a good amount of damage will increase your chances of victory in this type of rule set.

Will my strategy line up work?

In this battle, the opponent's strategy is built around using Katrelba Gobson with the Immortalis summoner, anticipating that I will rely on magic attacks. Immortalis offers great defense against magic, and the Shatter ability can effectively break through shields. However, my lineup doesn't heavily depend on shields, which minimizes the impact of Shatter, giving a potential advantage. My strategy utilizes speed and damage output difference, with a focus on sneak attacks and powerful melee units like my own Katrelba Gobson. With a more balanced card selection and an emphasis on speed, you have the potential to overwhelm the opponent, especially since their summoner's strength is somewhat misaligned with my lineup. Given your superior speed and damage distribution, I have likely had the upper hand in this battle, as I will initiate the battle first and sneak strategy may outpace their defenses specifically the opponent chaos agent.

With this battle round 2, my Katrelba Gobson had a clear advantage over the opponent's due to the difference in speed, even though both triggered the Bloodlust ability. The increased speed allowed my sneak attack strategy to execute flawlessly, making Katrelba Gobson the MVP of the match. While the opponent's card placement and ability choices were well-planned, they didn't anticipate my focus on the sneak attack, especially given the Broken Arrow rule set. Expecting me to rely on melee or magic, the opponent gambled by choosing Immortalis, which ultimately worked in my favor and secured my victory.

What could we learn from this strategy?

We can learn that the sneak strategy can be highly effective, especially when it catches the opponent off guard. In this case, prioritizing speed and targeting the backline with Katrelba Gobson allowed for the effective elimination of vulnerable enemy units, even though both players had similar key cards with the Bloodlust ability. This highlights the importance of adaptability and understanding the meta—by anticipating the opponent’s expectations and choosing a less predictable strategy, you can gain a significant advantage.

Depending on the rules stipulated and the opponent's past battles, therefore be sure to research and evaluate the potential lineup you wish to utilize. Remember that to employ effective tactics, you must combine cards that have powers that are appropriate or beneficial for the given rule sets, place them in favorable positions, and get familiar with your opponent's lineup. Stronger opponent cards? you might still defeat and win it even with your basic lineup 🤗.

This is another simple strategy yet helpful for certain matches in the Earth line-up element, feel free to check my other blog that uses the Water element which I commonly use, and hope this could help you in the battle. 😊
