Win-Win Splinterlands Scholarships: Do's & Don'ts guide

I've been part of the Balthazar guild for almost two years, playing as BLTZR-WIZARD-728. A huge thanks to Joon, @captainwhoco, and the coaching team for welcoming me into the guild, consistently helping us scholars and guiding new players as they start their journey. It’s been an incredible experience, especially with all the changes that have come to Splinterlands over this time.

Now into the topic, I will be sharing do's and don'ts for managers and scholars based on my experience as a scholar in Balthazar.

For Managers: Creating and Growing a Scholarship Partnership

Do's for Managers

  • Know Who to Trust

Looking for players who are reputable and have experience in the game or related to the game and also have knowledge and experience of crypto. Sometimes a manager will also find who could be an assistant or coach, they're tasked to review this player or those who come recommended by a trusted community member. This will help ensure the assets and contribute positive earnings.

  • Establish a Clear Expectation from the start

Before the scholarship begins, set and communicate the expectations around gameplay, card usage, rank goals, and earning splits. Rules, Guidelines, and Penalaties are a Must to follow.
In my Balthazar Guild, I always play whenever I'm free before the Energy is not yet implemented we were tasked to play every day at least around 25-50 matches and must win a 50% win rate, but now that the Energy exists there's a limit we can play, still, we can grind 25 energy per day and consistently gain more rating points as required.

  • Keep Earnings and Payments Clear

Make sure players are on the same page about how rewards are split and when they’re paid out. Lay out the details upfront so there are no surprises, and be open with records or receipts (excel of the payments) for peace of mind on both sides. Clear terms keep everything running smoothly and help build trust over time.

  • Create an offer with the right Support and Guidance

Many scholars are new to the game, so it helps to share some basics or tips that can increase their gaming experience on these splinterlands. A little guidance goes a long way, and providing helpful resources or strategies can make a real difference in how well they perform—and how much they enjoy the experience. This is where Coaches guide players on how to play some basic strategy, how to use appropriate elements and a combination of abilities.

  • Keep Communication Open and Easy

Make it simple for scholars to reach out with questions or updates. Letting them know you’re available to chat builds trust and keeps everything running smoothly, helping prevent any small issues from turning into bigger ones. Typically in our guild, coaches serve as the main point of contact for any questions, gathering feedback from players and passing along suggestions or improvement ideas that can strengthen the relationship between scholars and managers.

Don’ts for Managers:

  • Avoid setting unrealistic goals

As part of a manager, I expect you already have some requirements to become a manager mentioned above but making sudden changes to terms, can lead to burnout and discontent. Prioritize open communication and value scholar feedback to improve performance and strengthen your relationship. Long-term collaborative relationships often lead to better results than short-term, ones by treating your scholars and coaches (the ones who manage the gameplay growth of scholars) with respect and understanding.

This is just my opinion and experience of the guild activities I noticed in our Guild. As of this moment, the manager is not active but when some changes come in Splinterlands, that is the time that our manager will take some action. Overall the members and I are content with what guidelines and rules are given.

For Scholars: Making the Most of the Splinterlands Scholarship

Do’s for Scholars:

  • Know and Follow the Manager's Expectations

Each manager has their way of running things as mentioned above (Establish a Clear Expectation from the start). Before diving into a scholarship, make sure you’re clear on what’s expected. This could mean using certain cards, reaching specific rank goals, or following a play every day as scheduled for the draining energy per match. Aligning with these guidelines will set a strong foundation.

  • Know some Strategy, Line-up, and Combination of Abilities

The scholar is not for everyone but open to everyone, sometimes might lose a lot of the match which then leads to not following the quota and guidelines given by the manager because there are a lot of abilities present in the game, knowing strategy alone takes days to follow. That is why only those who are knowledgeable and interested in the game will easily adapt to this game. Even so, it's your Responsibility the more dedicated you are to your gameplay, the better your chances of promoting or advancing delegated SPS and gold cards, and you may even open doors for future rewards or opportunities. I would advise just experimenting with your strategy in your own Splinterlands account so that it won't reduce some win rate stat of your scholar account.

  • Keep Communication open

Always up-to-date checking what going on in the community splinterlands and the guild on Discord or any social media splinterlands-related discussions. Sometimes they will announce and organize some events for scholars like tournaments for the competitive practice of the strategy and will some rewards. If you’re facing any challenges, whether it’s about reaching ranks or finding enough time to play, talk to your coaches or admin about it which will also reflect to the manager. Being upfront can build trust and may even lead to more flexibility.

Don’ts for Scholars:

  • Don’t Ignore the Rules, Qouta, and Guidelines

Every scholarship has its own rules and expectations. Follow these guidelines to keep things positive and maintain a good reputation. It's okay to take a break if you're facing tough opponents. Sometimes, stepping away and coming back later can help you perform better.

  • Don’t Expect Quick Rewards or Advance Cards

Instead of rushing to see your earnings, focus on improving your skills. It takes time for the earnings to be divided and processed. Remember, you might start with basic cards, but as you prove your abilities and win rate, you'll be given more advanced ones.


By working together and following these guidelines, both managers and scholars can create a successful and rewarding partnership in Splinterlands. Happy battling!
