I never expected my life to change with one call, but it did. It was in the middle of the week, when my phone rang, breaking the silence of my small apartment. I hesitated for a moment before answering, wondering who could be calling me so late.
“Hello?” I said, with a tiny voice.
“Hello, is this Faith?” a warm voice asked from the other end.
“Yes, it is,” I replied, trying to place the voice.
" Hi Faith, my name is Gloria, and i'm calling from a recruitment agency in Lagos” the voice explained.
I sat up straight in my bed with curiosity, “what can I do for you?” I asked.
Gloria laughed. You submitted an application sometime back for the post of a secretary and we've been searching for a candidate with your skills and experience, and we think you will be a great fit for the job.
I was happy because I had been hoping for them to call me but they haven't and I kind of have up hope. So you can see why when I received the call I was overjoyed. My dream job has finally located me.
“When can I come for the interview?” I asked, trying to contain my excitement.
Gloria chuckled from the other end. “How about tomorrow? We will send you the details and you can come in to meet with the team.
I hung up the phone, feeling over the moon. My life was about to change because I was being invited for an interview for my dream job.
I could not sleep that night because of the news, I was just smiling to myself and I started searching for what to wear for the interview the next day, since it was impromptu.
The next day, I went in for the interview, and it went amazingly well. I was able to answer all the questions I was asked, both written and oral. A week later, I received a call offering me the job. I was so excited.
As I started my new job, I realized it was everything I hoped for and more. I was challenged, and I was also learning. I met new people and I also learnt new things on the job. I was able to adapt to my new work environment because of the people I worked with, and my boss also made it easy for me and what would have been difficult was easy for me to navigate through.
I never expected my life to change with one call, but it did. That call had open a door of opportunity for me and I was grateful for it.
Years later, I would look back on that particular call as the turning point in my life. It had given me courage to pursue my dreams and had led me to a life I never thought would be possible.
As I sat in my office, looking through the window, I could not help but smile that a call had changed everything in my life and I was forever grateful for that one call.
