Just like every other season, the summer season comes with various fruits and veggies for our enjoyment. I love fruits, oh la la! and can't stay a day without eating fruits. 😅.
So I'll be sharing some fruits and veggies that can be found during the summer and even after summer.
Top in the list is Pawpaw or Papaya, one of my favorite fruits. Imagine being served a plate of neatly cut pawpaw that was taken straight out from the refrigerator after returning from one of those walks in a sunny morning, how so refreshing 😋. You know what, ripe pawpaw is high in water plus protein content including other essential nutrients.
Pawpaw is food for me and the beautiful thing is that I have the trees in my garden so I don't have to buy them.
Although pawpaw is not a seasonal fruit, sort of because you can get it all round the year but it's usually more during the dry season here. So it's a bit scarce now as the trees are producing new fruits.
SourSop, we actually call it SourChop here, hehehe.
Soursop is another healthy, tasty and refreshing fruit to enjoy in summer time as it has a water content of about 81%. So you see eating soursop also helps keep the body hydrated. Not only that, it contains some essential nutrients such as fiber, vitamins B and C, protein, carbohydrates including minerals like calcium etc.
If you want to enjoy the tasty goodness of soursop, try refrigerating it. You can also juice it but don't forget to take it while chilled.
Soursop is also a seasonal fruit and always in abundance during the dry season here. So now that we are in the rainy season, they are scare.
Oranges, even the bees love oranges, lol.
Just like soursop, orange has a high water content and that's just what the body needs to stay refreshed on a hot summer afternoon. The colder, the better, infact, the tastier, lol. Although oranges are always available here all through the season but there are when it is surplus.
Mangoes
Thinking of a fruit to enjoy while sitting out under a tree in summertime?, Think mangoes, lol. Mangoes are found in abundance during the summer season and you can eat as much as you can. I guess no dislikes eating mangoes.
Strawberries
This fruits can't be missing in your summer fruit basket. It's just the perfect fruit to snack on while sitting out at the lounge and enjoying beauty of the summer evening.
Apples
You know it's said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away and I say eating an apple during the summer keeps the doctor farther away, lol. So don't forget to include apple in your summer fruit.
Coming to veggies, there are quite a number of them. There's the
- Okra
- Mushrooms.
There's also leafy veggies like
- Fenugreek.
- Spinach.
- Fluted Pumpkin (Ugu)

Even here soursop is expensive. Since people got to know about the health benefits especially the males, they don't allow poor people like us to buy again.
