"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." - Robin Williams

My Favorite Celebrity

For my entry in the contest, I want to write about Robin McLaurin Williams. There are so many great films starring Robin. I actually watched Patch Adams while working on this post. Here I share several videos I found to tell this story.

Robin has been my favorite actor since a very young age. I first saw him in the American television sitcom Mork & Mindy in the late 70s. He was so funny and always made me laugh. Little did I know as a child that he was a well known comedian.

The first movie I saw him in was Good Morning Vietnam as a teenager. I particularly liked the movie Awakenings, a story about a neurologist that discovered the benefits of the drug L-DOPA. This movie influenced my interests in neuroscience and biology. I was already interested in the medical field in high school.

Gone Too Soon

It was very saddening when his death was announced in August of 2014. He had been initially misdiagnosed with Parkinson's disease but his autopsy revealed something different.

"The misdiagnosis occurred in May 2014 after Robin had been experiencing severe memory, movement, personality, reasoning, sleep and mood changes." - What Robin Williams’ widow wants you to know, CNN

There is a 10 minute video of Robin's wife, Susan Schneider Williams, at a Life Itself conference within the CNN article above. She also spoke at the BioHive summit in 2021 about her husband's devastating disease, Lewy body dementia.

One of Williams' last performances was in 2014's Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb when he played the wax figure of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States. This is one of my daughter's favorite movies. His last scene was a foreshadowed final farewell.

Tribute to a Legend

Robin Williams was loved by many and this tribute to him says it all. He was truly "one of a kind."

I want to end this post on a happy note with a video of some funny clips from one of my favorite Robin Williams movies, Mrs. Doubtfire. He really was one of the funniest guys in show business.

Thank you for visiting my post.

Rest in peace Robin Williams
