As regards your experience, I think it happens to a lot of same gender couples which is quite unfair. They are restricted on some certain places and levels and it's understandable that you become uncomfortable when someone begins to ask you questions that gives you worry.
But I advise that you worry less. The world is evolving and even if it takes time, someday you would be totally free in mind and doings.
