I did a card like this for 2023 and it was used for promoting Hive, so I decided to do it again for 2024.
Hive data card for 2024:
2.6M Hive Accounts
Its actually a bit lower than this, 2.55M, but when you rounded its up to 2.6M. Not a lot of progress on new accounts in 2024, around 50k new accounts were created, similar as the prior year of 2023. Let’s hope we boost this number in 2025!
350k Active Accounts
This is a yearly number, meaning this much accounts made at least one type of transaction on the chain in 2024. On a monthly basis the numbers vary between 50k to 200k, while on a daily basis between 30k to 100k. A lot of the active accounts are Splinterlands players. Just for posting on a yearly basis there is around 40k, similar as voting and account that are curating.
When compared to lat year this number was close to 500k, meaning there have been a downtrend in the active accounts, but only due to the lower activities on Splinterlands. For posting for example the numbers have increased from 35k to 40k.
40k Content Creators
These are accounts that have made one post or a comment. This is the core activity on the chain so to speak. The number of these accounts has actually increased from the previous year when it was 33k. It’s actually quite the jump, although if we look at the daily or monthly data the numbers are down. But cumulative for the year they are up.
336M Transactions
The feeless transactions are where Hive shines. A total of 336M transactions were made on chain, or close to one million daily average. Again a lot of these are custom json transactions, that are used for gaming, but in 2024 these types of transactions were down, so there is a big share of the other transactions as well, especially curation.
When compared to the previous year, when there were more than 570M the numbers are down, again mostly because of less gaming transactions. The other transactions are almost stable.
14M USD Distributed to Users
All the different participants in the Hive ecosystem received a total of 14M USD. This number is a little bit tricky because of the Hive price. The average price for Hive for conversions in 2024 was at 0.35, so this is what is used to get the number above. When the Hive price is above this, the overall value of the Hive distributed increases.
At the price of 0.35 $, authors and curators each got 3M USD, DHF workers got 3.4M, HBD interest and staking rewards were around 1.5M, witness around 1M.
9M Posts and Comments
This number has been quite stable, with a small decrease when compared to 2023 when there was around 10M posts and comments.
80M TVL
Total Locked Value is something that other chains use a lot as a metric. There is now a total of 184M Hive powered up. The numbers have grown from 172M from the beginning of the year, but the liquid Hive has increased as well, so while we are up in absolute terms, we are down in relative terms. Also, if we add the HBD in savings that has been around 7.5M for almost the whole year we get to the number of 80M TVL.

I think before the end of 2025 we might get to double this figure. I think when Hive finally flies and pump hard we all know many dormant accounts will start creating to catch some of those pumps. Great work you've done so far

These numbers are looking mighty good, HIVE is a very active platform!
There has been a 150k decrease in the number of active accounts compared to 2023. Naturally, this has reduced the number of transactions and the number of posts and comments.
Interesting data that helps us understand where we all kind of fit in and to think when I joined we had 825K accounts.

No there is not, as much I'm awere ... in this case you want data for powerdown that are in the process... interesting idea, will have it in mind ... I have been thinking of a real time hive stats for a while now, might do some work in 2025 :)

I love this card of key metrics for Hive. It's interesting that we had fewer active accounts in 2024 than in 2023. I'm thinking the Hive price until it started to pump may be a reason for that. People tend to be active based on the sentiment, and the price influences the sentiment a great deal.
