When Do Hivers Post and Vote the Most? | July 2023

in Hive Statisticslast year

What is the time when Hivers post and vote/curate the most? Which days of the week? What hour of the day?

Lets take a look at the latest data from July 2023.

Having in mind Hive is a global community posting and voting time can vary a lot. Different time zones etc. Can users optimize their posting time, so they get some more attention?

Here we will be running the data for posting and voting time in parallel, so users can compare them. We will be looking at the hours, and at the days of the week, and combine them for a heat map.

We will be analyzing a four-week period, June 12 to July 16, 2023.

The time is in UTC. You can compare it with your local time zone here: https://time.is/UTC

Hours

First the hours. Let’s take a look what time of the day Hivers post and vote the most in the period.

02.PNG

Note again on the UTC time.

On the posting side we can see that there is a clear trend, where there is more posting between 14h to 17h UTC, with a peak somewhere around 15h. Overall, there is more posting in the 12h to 22h period.
Between 5 and 9, there is the lowest number of posts. The drop from the peak hour (15h) to the low hour (7).

On the voting/curating side there is a slightly different pattern. The peak seems to be in the period 19 to 22, and interesting another peak at 01.
For the off-peak hours there is slight shift and the voting decay starts later, with the lowest numbers in the period from 7 to 9.

The data above is a sum of all the posts in the hours for the analyzed period.

Days Of The Week

Now that we have seen the hours data, lets take a look at the days of the week. What days of the week Hivers post and vote the most?

What days of the week Hivers post and vote the most?

03.PNG

A clear trend on the posts here. Monday and Tuesday are the days with the highest numbers of post, while the weekend not as much. Although the drop in the number of posts is not that big. From 15k to 13.5k. Around 10%.

The voting shows a bit of a different pattern, with Saturday having the least voting activity, while Sunday is quite active, almost at the level as for the working days. The peak is in the middle of the week on Wednesday.

Maybe hivers want just to read and curate on Sunday.

Heatmap

Combing the days and hours and we get the heat map.

First the posts:

05.PNG

We can see that the start of the week between 13h and 21h is quite busy. This period seems to be divided into two waves, first with a peak around 15h, a slowdown in around 19h and again a second peak around 21h. Going towards the weekend the numbers get lower.
The quite hours are between 4h and 8h.

The votes heatmap** looks like this.

04.PNG

Again, voting seems more random than posting. Some spikes happening randomly between hours and days. Although there is more activity in the period as for the posts, that is 13h to 22h. Again, Sunday looks busier for voting than Saturday. Between 4h and 8h is obviously quieter for voting as well.

Here are the two heat maps.

06.PNG

These are a bit smaller, but we can still make some comparison.
Posts have more consistent patterns than votes. Voting seems a bit more random, although we can still see that the general pattern applies here as well, with more activity in the 14h to 22h and lot less in the 4h to 8h.
Sunday being the day with the most difference, with more votes than posts.

All the best

Can't say exactly the busiest time of votes or posts due to the time difference but I guess the similarity happens on Sunday since that's when most people decide to take a break and just rest. Really nice statistics.✨

Sunday seems to be slightly less popular to post but I wonder with the post timings, we are in many different time zones so it is hard to say which is the real most popular time to post. Thanks for the overview! Nice to see everything.

I have noticed that a lot of users are always busy with their family or go out to enjoy themselves on Sunday and that's why we have lesser posts on that day...

This is great. Now I know when I should be posting more often. 😍
It is also nice to see that there are not very big waves and that the numbers are relatively consistent when we compare the entire week (around 14k posts and 1.5 million upvotes every day)

@dalz! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @tuisada. (4/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want, plus you can win Hive Power and Alive Power delegations and Ecency Points in our chat every day.

I have also thought about it before. I think it is changeable, but these statistics are worth to know. I generally post on the similar hours and I sometimes get higher, sometimes lower votes.

Interesting reading and here in South Africa we are UTC+2

This is very useful to know the best time to publish.

This information is really helpfull , i have always wonder this!

Different time zones existed that's why voting vary alot.

This is really incredible analysis, gives a lot of insights, depending on what one is looking for... do you mind sharing the source of the data for the analysis?
