Titans fired GM Ran Carthon on Tuesday

Well, the Titans did something after this abysmal season. Two years into the job, the Titans fired Ran Carthon. It's mildly surprising. I think he was an ok GM. But perhaps that is why he was fired, for simply being ok. He helped sign some moderately big names like Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley but that's really it I guess. Nothing he did really came to fruition when it comes to actual wins and losses. Draft picks like Peter Skoronski and J.C. Latham have been ok but not exactly jaw dropping. I thought Tyjae Spears was going to be better for the Titans but he seemed to regress/be injury prone this season. Drafting T'Vondre Sweat was an excellent pick.

Ran was ok, but one thing he sort of failed at was not finding a QB. That wasn't great.

Of course Ran could only do so much. He did not exactly show up to a wonderful situation AND he was only here two years. So it is just a bit rough all around. I guess I'm just neutral about the firing. It's starting to seem like maybe the Titans should have kept Vrabel. But who knows, and it's too late now.

It's been a bit odd when it comes to timelines of hires and fires for the Titans. It's not usually a good sign when a franchise is doing 'odd' things. Smells like dysfunction man. Pretty depressing.

The Titans hired GM Jon Robinson while Mike Mularkey was the coach. Robinson then fired Mularkey for Vrabel. Robinson was fired, Carthon was hired and Vrabel stayed on. Vrabel was fired, and Callahan was hired while Carthon was still the GM. Now Carthon is fired and apparently Callahan is staying.

The way the Titans just alternate GM and coaches just feels strange. I suppose if you're the coach or GM staying, that feels good for the most part but these tactics seem a bit strange to say the least.

When it comes to coach hirings, I suppose I am semi aware of candidates around the league year in and year out but when it comes to General Manager candidates I'm pretty clueless.

Deion Sanders perhaps? I know Sanders wants to potentially be around his son Shedeur at the pro level. Deion did a good job coaching AND recruiting at the University of Colorado so maybe Deion could be a GM? That seems a bit unlikely but who knows anymore.

Otherwise, this GM search is a mystery. This offseason as a whole is seemingly going to be a mystery.

Let's see what happens next....
