On Sunday the Titans won once again, officially going undefeated in the preseason. A feat the team hasn't accomplished since 2003. There aren't really any stats that suggest that preseason success will lead to regular season success but, it's still pretty cool to see the team compete well.
Will Levis played in his second preseason game in New Orleans after not playing in game two. He faced mainly second stringers but that being said he did play quite well. Competition may have not been absolutely top notch but he played like a QB1 should in this type of scenario. Also, second stringers are not exactly terrible players so all in all I am pretty pleased at the moment as a fan.
Against the Saints Levis went 7/8 for 118 yards passing. That is good for nearly seventeen yards a completion. Not too shabby.
Offensively, many of the main players that are expected to produce in 2024 have played well in the preseason. It's cool to see honestly. Many times I wonder if the team should rest up or not go as hard or whatever during the preseason for obvious reasons. But I do like seeing the roster get warmed up a bit. No key players really got injured and since there are only three preseason games nowadays, it does seem like a good strategy to not be shy and play the number one guys. Pollard, Spears, Boyd, Ridley all have made plays this preseason. Defensively, the Titans seemed a bit more reserved about playing too many top guys. They seemed to stick with playing younger players who will likely play a lot in 2024, and other players that are more on the bubble to make the roster.
It's been interesting to see how different the Titans are going to be from a schematic standpoint in 2024, on both sides of the ball the team is clearly going to be playing a different style than they have when Vrabel was here. Really even before Vrabel. The Titans are going to play a more 'modern' style of football it seems.
Offensively the Titans will run their offense similarly to the Bengals offense, and defensively the Titans will play like the Ravens defense. Of course this does not suggest the Titans will automatically be as good as those teams right away, but in theory it does seem like a pretty cool idea.
The Titans offense seems to look a bit more pass heavy but not necessarily in a spammy sort of way. Their pass attack looks to be balanced, deliberately attacking all levels of the defense. Short passes, intermediate passes and of course deep shots as well. Plenty of run mixed in as well because you can be as balanced as you want, teams will notice if you pass ninety percent of the time. Backs like Pollard and Spears seem perfect for this type of offense as this style is definitely screen happy.
All in all it was a successful preseason and I am too excited to see them play in games that matter!
