Working for yourself is hectic I know...but you need to take the breaks where and when you can because otherwise you'll burn out. Generally clients won't expect you to work when on vacation and most are pretty good at leaving you alone once you set the boundary.
I have always hated getting back to ten million emails after I've been away though, used to drive me mad so I feel for you.
