So today is name yourself day, and I think it's great. If I would've had the chance to choose my name... I have no idea what name would've chosen but not be the one I have...
It's not an ugly name, it was my grandma's mom's name. I think naming kids after a loved one is a nice thing, a way to honor said person.
Mercedes is a name of Latin origin that means 'she who rewards'. It is a traditional name that has not lost its freshness through use.
Most of the internet sites I've seen talk about how a woman named Mercedes has a charismatic personality characterized by generosity and a friendly and approachable character that triumphs in social relationships for being a sincere person and always ready to help others. In addition, her sense of responsibility and her capacity for effort make her successful also in the work environment. Even though I do fit in the description in some parts, I don't agree with the name has a big influence on one's personality, I mean, I'd still be responsible in my work environment if my name was Jessica or Rebecca.
I like many names, in fact, my daughters names I think are super cute, and the meaning of them as well:
My first born's name is Mya, M being my initial, Y being Spanish for "&",and Y being hubby's initial. My youngest name is the same as my mother's:Maria Magdalena, Maggie for short
All and all, if I could change my name, I wouldn't, I think there are ways to do so but it's a long and annoying process, plus, even though I didn't adore my name growing up, I think it kind of grew on me, I'm used to being called Mechis or Mely so, why bother?

I'm in the same boat. I think if this was an option when I was a child or still in my formative years perhaps I would have considered it. At my age, I know who I am and am very comfortable in my own skin with my birth name.
