This past Thursday night, after my husband got home from picking up our youngest from work, he told me I should get my camera and head outside with him, because the moon looked awesome but some clouds were moving in. Of course, by the time I got my camera, put it on my tripod, and got outside... yep, La Luna was playing hide-and-seek in the soon to be stormy sky.
However, it was unseasonably warm out, so Jim and I hung out for a little while anyway, which gave me the chance to get a decent amount of shots. Since the moon was turning officially full about seven hours after, it's about as close to full as I could get. And sadly by the time the eclipse happened, not only were we asleep, but it was majorly downpouring & windy out. Again. Thanks, New England weather! 😒
I actually ended up with over 100 captures, so I decided to just go with the first 10 I could find that I liked for today, and I'll share some more another time.
My usual spiel before I get to the pictures - I've reduced the file size, and in some cases tweaked the exposure and/or sharpness a bit, but I haven't filtered these. The difference in the color of the moon comes from zooming in and out, and bumping the exposure up and down, not from tinting it. It still amazes (and frustrates...lol) me that what I see in the sky isn't always what turns up on my camera. These were taken with my Nikon affixed to my tripod, in my Durham New Hampshire yard.
Now here they are, in the order I took them...
Moon Monday - Seven Hours before the Full Moon, November 18th, 2021
1. Just a little cloudy
2. But even being shy, the moon made the sky look pretty
3. Peek-a-boo!
4. So mysterious looking
5. I actually like having the clouds passing by, because it makes the shot more interesting.
6. Although it makes it tricky to get clear shots when she shows her face.
7. Clouds are getting darker.
8. But the patterns are getting cooler.
9. Cloud shadows on the moon.
10. While this rainbow glow isn't exactly how it looked in the sky, there were some beautiful colors in the clouds. One of these days, I hope to get an even better camera to show a more accurate depiction of the sky & moon, but for now, I think this will do.
Happy Moon Monday!

Speaking of witch which...
5 and 8 are perfect!!! I love how the clouds frame the moon, it's even better than a clear sky.

Nice! Shot 8 and 9 are my favorites
For me it is always difficult to photograph the moon, although sometimes I get them right. Your photos are great! You captured the moon in all its splendor! Beautiful! 😍
Wow, they look like pictures from a horror movie, I love them, the mysterious air, the details on the moon looks like it was impacted by meteorites and left some craters, really very good.
Wow u mean u captured that
That is awesome,Traci! I don't care what people say, they are NOT easy shots!
It looks like the moon is peeking through the black clouds. Photography of the full moon is remarkably captivating.
