I return to this beautiful community (YouHive) to participate for the second time in its first initiative 🤔, presenting the channel of a singer and songwriter from the United States with Asian roots.
Although it is still a small channel, the one of this artist, it is logical that it will continue to grow [maybe not, being me one of her followers], there is a lot of quality, talent and good taste to overflow in the creations of this author. The name of this artist is Sheherazaad, evoking a thousand and one nights. And it does not disappoint. On this occasion, the Genie makes the desire for the exceptional real.
I was able to learn of her existence thanks to youtube, although on this occasion the algorittmo participated in nothing in this discovery.
During the 2020 lockdown, I had time to explore this platform a bit, finding several music channels, some dedicated to uploading live performances and others to promoting artists who live outside the commercial circuit. From one of these channels “covid”, to which I subscribe, I got the notice of the existence of a new video a few months ago.
I started to listen to the youtube of this artist, then unknown to me, and set myself the task of satisfying all the curiosity that was born with the listening. In a few minutes, after a brief flutter of tabs appearing and disappearing, I had before me the official youtube channel, the official website of Sheherazaad and the official video of the single from her latest album.
From the channel the shorts caught my attention, normally this type of short videos are usually used as a means of promotion, having an eye-catching format and fast pace. However, the shorts of this creator consisted of slow, intimate mini-documentaries, the farthest thing from what anyone would expect from a 60-second video on youtube.
The official video of his debut album, Qasr (2024), struck me for its strong dreamlike scent, its foggy, dreamy flavor. From the grain of the images, from those colors, if you look closely, you can see grey aromas of nostalgia elegantly emanating. I saw them .... And my curiosity grew.
Listen to the sound of the hypnotic guitar playing in Mashoor and, perhaps you will understand, how I ended up as a prisoner of this artist's work. A life sentence prisoner.
I don't usually pay attention to the lyrics, except in some exceptional cases, like this one. I live and feel the music from the voice and the rhythm, just like a small child would.
On this occasion, the tempo of the songs, slow, thought-provoking, an intimate atmosphere, the sincerity of Sheherazaad's voice, the exoticness of the proposal, ...., led me to the path of reason: the lyrics. In what world would the Hindi and Urdu texts of a daughter of San Francisco inhabit who lives in NY?
The answer was given, the enigma turned out to be tiny, these letters live in the world of dreams and longings. Images of fish and mermaids, uprootedness, chaos and madness swim between the lines of a proposal that unites avant-garde and tradition. A work between two worlds. A work in search of the answer to a question: Who am I?
Although in philosophy I am a self-confessed cynic, I cannot be far from existentialism. Only the inner look, without the alibis of the character, without the excuses of imposture, opens the possibility of solving the great adventure of finding one's own identity.

A native of San Francisco, before writing and recording Qasr, Sheherazaad embarked on a protracted journey to learn more about her identity, her ancestry, and her origins. “It’s fairly common with a lot of children who were born far from the motherland that their parents are from,” she says. “It manifests uniquely in every different community and culture. But a South Asian-American, diasporic sort of identity crisis is my specialty.”

Vuelvo a esta estupenda comunidad (YouHive) a participar por segunda ocasión en su primera iniciativa 🤔, presentando el canal de una cantante y compositora de Estados Unidos con raíces asiáticas.
Aunque todavía es un canal pequeño, el de esta artista, lo lógico es que siga creciendo [quizás no, siendo yo uno de sus seguidores], hay mucha calidad, talento y buen gusto a rebosar en las creaciones de esta autora. El nombre de esta artista es Sheherazaad, evocando a las mil y una noches. Y no defrauda. En esta ocasión, el Genio convierte en real el deseo de lo excepcional.
Pude enterarme de su existencia gracias a youtube, aunque en esta ocasión el algoritmo participó en nada en este descubrimiento.
Durante el encierro de 2020, tuve tiempo de explorar un poco esta plataforma encontrando varios canales de música, unos dedicados a subir actuaciones en directo y otros a promocionar artistas, de esos, que habitan afuera del circuito comercial. De uno de estos canales "covid", al que estoy suscrito, me llegó el aviso de la existencia de un video nuevo hace unos meses.
Fue comenzar a escuchar el Youtube de esta artista, por entonces desconocida para mi, y ponerme a la tarea de saciar toda la curiosidad que nació con la escucha. En pocos minutos, tras un breve revoloteo de pestañas apareciendo y despareciendo, ya tenía ante mí el canal oficial de youtube, la página web oficial de Sheherazaad y el video oficial del single de su último disco.
Del canal me llamaron la atención los shorts, normalmente este tipo de videos cortos suelen usarse como medio de promoción, teniendo un formato vistoso y ritmo trepidante. Sin embargo, los shorts de esta creadora consistían en mini-documentales lentos, intimistas, lo más alejado de lo que cualquiera esperaría de un video de 60 segundos en youtube.
El vídeo oficial de su álbum de debut, Qasr (2024), me impactó por su fuerte olor onírico, su sabor a niebla, a sueño. Del grano de las imágenes, de esos colores, si se observa con atención, se ven desprenderse, con elegancia, grises aromas de nostalgia. Yo los veo…. Y mi curiosidad fue en aumento.
Escucha el sonido hipnótico de la guitarra que suena en Mashoor y, quizás, entiendas como terminé como un prisionero de la obra de esta artista. Un condenado a cadena perpetua.
No suelo prestar atención a las letras, salvo en algunos casos excepcionales, como ha sido éste. La música la vivo y siento desde la voz y el ritmo, sin más, como lo haría un niño pequeño.
En esta ocasión, el tempo de las canciones, lento, invitando a la reflexión, una atmósfera intimista, la sinceridad de la voz de Sheherazaad, lo exótico de la propuesta, …., me llevaron al sendero de la razón: las letras. ¿En qué mundo habitarían los textos Hindi y Urdu de una hija de San Francisco que vive en Nueva York?
La respuesta estaba dada, el enigma resultó ser diminuto, estas letras viven en el mundo de los sueños y de los anhelos. Imágenes de peces y sirenas, desarraigo, caos y locura nadan entre las líneas de una propuesta que une vanguardia y tradición. Una obra entre dos mundos. Una obra en busca de la respuesta a una pregunta: ¿Quién soy?
Aunque en filosofía soy un cínico confeso, no puedo estar lejano al existencialismo. Solamente la mirada interior, sin las coartadas del personaje, sin las excusas de la impostura, se abre la posibilidad de resolver la gran aventura del encuentro con la propia identidad.

Te dejo en este sentido una sugerencia, por muchas cosas que he aprendido, en los casos en que hagas referencias, al menos deja una fuente de internet, por ejemplo la Wikipedia, o cualquier otra de donde hubieras leído esa información. Como no es un conocimiento con el que uno nace sabiendo, en alguna parte está y es bueno citar la referencia de la info.

Te agradezco el consejo. En este caso la referencia está dada, hay un vínculo a una entrevista, ahí se encuentran los datos biográficos y sobre el disco, que he utilizado en el post. Quizá la referencia esté escondida, lo tengo en cuenta, pero era el lugar (y la forma) en donde me cuadraba ponerla. Nunca uso IA en los textos de mis post, por si ese es el temor. El resto es obra mía 100 %.

I like it. And I know you loved the art of her videos. Mashoor is beautiful with its interesting fusion of colour and black and white. On the other hand the sounds, and her voice that sometimes is like a murmur and sometimes like a wail.

Escuché todas tus sugerencias pero me fui a YouTube a buscar más información. La que más llegó a mí fue Mashoor pero descubrí porque eres fan a ella. Porque hay un toque de flamenco en ella,según dice la reseña, también amor, ira, dolor y alegría. Toda una mezcla, la guitarra interpretada por Ría Modak es también algo que le aporta.
En todas se nota la nostalgia,los movimientos de su danza y esos instrumentos que emplean,sus sonidos con la voz. Nada más decir que me encantó tu sugerencia. Deseo pases una linda semana. Un abrazo.
Buen ojo clínico @mamani, seguro que esos aires flamencos algo han influido en que me guste esta propuesta. Y la guitarra como dices, también algo flamenca, cumple su papel a la hora de hipnotizarme. Creo que nanixxx también se dio cuenta de este detalle flamenco, aunque creo que sólo lo sugirió, no me lo dijo de frente.
Tengo otros videos y canales en mente para presentarlos en esta comunidad, pero lo cierto es que esta mezcla de nostalgia,ira, dolor y alegría, como muy bien describes, me tiene ahora mismo atrapado. Además, el disco es de este año, así que me pareció una buena idea presentarlo en la comunidad.

Olá tudo bem?Eu já a conhecia por causa da minha descendência eu nasci no Brasil mais minhas raízes não são do Brasil,esse tipo de música é realmente fascinante,essa música faz isso com agente assim como você não é a letra que mim apego em primeiro lugar mais sim só ritmo aos instrumentos que meche com meu coração e de repente toma conta da nossa mente... depois de ouvir algumas músicas como essa eu vou de zero a cem em adrenalina, coragem para se levantar prosseguir melhora minha auto estima e as vezes fico feliz sem motivo... sim esse tipo de música é fascinante...
Não é de admirar o que diz, a música com boas vibrações é curativa. E fico muito contente por ter gostado da seleção. É de origem árabe ou asiática?
Estou a ir bem, como sempre ocupado com o trabalho, agora estou a mudar para um novo escritório, o que leva mais tempo.
