My 2018 Mexican Gold Libertad
The Stats:
• 23rd year of availability for the Mexican Gold Libertad coin!
• Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold in BU condition.
• Obverse includes Winged Victory in the foreground, with Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background.
• Reverse features the design of the modern coat of arms and 10 historic versions.
• Minted by the Mexican Mint and guaranteed by Banco de Mexico.
The Design:
On the obverse of 1oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coins is Winged Victory. Her figure dominates the foreground and is encircled by engravings of the year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content for the coin. In the background are two physical landmarks visible from Mexico City. The twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl rise into the sky behind Winged Victory, in real life, and on this coin.
On the reverse of the 2018 1oz Mexican Gold Libertad coin focuses on the nation's coat of arms. In the center is the modern version of this seal, with the outside rim filled by 10 historic depictions of the seal as it has changed over time.
I’ve bought and sold a lot of gold over the years. I had never really looked into Mexican Gold until I saw the 2018 Reverse Proof Libertad. I scooped up one of those Reverse Proofs and sent it off to PCGS for grading; I’ll post the results and photos at a later date.
After I saw the design on the Reverse Proof it got me thinking about the regular bullion coins they make. I hopped online and ordered this 2018 1oz Gold Libertad. When this thing got here I was amazed. I immediately stuck it in a capsule that was made to fit the 1oz Gold Eagles and Buffalos from the US Mint. As you can tell from these photos the coin doesn’t fit perfectly.
I eventually ordered 25 plastic capsules the correct size and told myself I was going to fill them all. This was probably something I could have accomplished, but shortly after I discovered my love for Pre-33 Gold and that has been my focus since.
I'll probably pick up a few more of these as time goes on. Maybe just once a year so I can have one of each date.
What do you all think about these coins???

I have a few silver Libertads, but not gold ones. It is a beautiful coin, but I cannot afford gold one ounces. I must save for my commemorative collections...

Hey buddy, they do make them in smaller weights... I was thinking of getting a few for myself. The designs on these are stunning. I have some macro shots I may do a post on sometime.

Better than the silver Libertad i suppose. I have been recently studying Mexican history as I got into collecting a few pieces of coinage, fascinating. I'm in the onset of the breaking away of many Spanish colonies as Spain herself is hurled into the Nepoléonic wars.

Oh, I have the Silver Libertads too 😁 The silver ones have a high premium also but folks love them and they sell well. The Gold Libertads come in different weights so you can choose to buy a little or a lot. I wish the US Mint would bring back the smaller size Buffalos.

I do Love the Mexican Gold Libertad, very beautiful coins!!🤗
I am super happy with it. The premiums on these are a little high but its a nice break from the Eagles and Indians.
Thanks for checking it out @silvertop 🙏
Awesome @anchormetals! I have not seen a gold Libertad up close like that before, what a beautiful coin!
Thanks!!! I've got some macro shots of the obverse I'll do a post on one day 👍
Looking forward to digging through my staff to see if I can contribute to the hockey contest...

I like the Mexican gold coins. My favorites are the Centenario, the Viente and the regular gold bullion gold. Thanks for sharing your beautiful 2018, @anchormetals. Have a great day, and take care 🥰🌺🤙
I only have a few Pesos and the Libertads. I'll have to look into the Centenario and the Viente to see what those are all about.
Thanks for the comment @silversaver888 🙏
