5 Goldback 2022 Set

Ah man, I've been itching to get my hands on some of these Goldbacks ever since I heard about them on the #silvergoldstackers discord! In Australia, there is only a few places to purchase them... and all of them are in Melbourne, and I suspect that the different websites might actually be all the same physical shopfront. Who knows... anyway, the key thing was that it was only in Melbourne.

... and I do come down to Melbourne often enough for work, and I figure that I save so much of my food allowance by not eating out, that I can drop in a pick up some shinies every now and then. The last time I was in Melbourne, I left it too late to drop by the shop... but this time, I made sure that it was the first thing that I did as soon as I landed and finished playing a concert. We had a free day the next day, and it was eat breakfast, and then head straight to the bullion shopfront!

And wow, it was unbelievable the line of people that were crammed into the small waiting space outside the secured doors. I was expecting to wait a little bit... but in the end, I was standing in line for a bit over an hour!

Probably a rush on the precious metals right after the Trump tariffs announcement. Anyway, it was quite funny to see some of the coin/bullion dealers recognising some of the "regulars" in the line... by name, no less!

But the wait was worth it... and here is a photo of my first set of 5 Goldbacks from the four 2022 collections that the Melbourne store stocked. All in lovely condition, except maybe that one on the left that has a bit of a bend to it... well, nothing that a bit of time in the leaves of a book won't fix!

This is the first time that I have seen them in real life, and so they were quite something to look at... although, I had to get back to the hotel before eyeing them off properly! The designs are quite intricate and and beautiful to look at it... so much detail!

So, I'm pretty blown away by the concept of the atomising then fixing of the gold to the Goldback notes... it is quite a novel way of doing things, and to have fractional gold to spend is also a nice idea. But in the end, I was drawn more to the artwork rather than the actual gold content. Personally, I like the little heft that silver and gold pieces have... these goldbacks just feel too lightweight and flimsy! But still, novel idea... but more of a collector's piece more than anything else for me. I will likely stick to the weightier feeling pieces, like the low-premium buybacks that I'll likely have a go for next time.

I also picked up a set of the 10 Goldbacks, but that is for a different post!

Moon is coming

Ohhh

Those are a sight to behold🥹✨

Wonderful actually... Simply wonderful ✨♥️

Oh yes, but in the end... I still think I prefer the heft of the metal itself!

Yes, the artwork is worth it! High premiums though!

Yeah, that artwork is really one of the top reasons for getting it... but you are right, the premiums make it more of a novelty buy for me... I will be going back to the chunky metal again.
