Ahhhh... I think that I'm having a bit of Goldbacks envy over here!!! I'll have to look into those again when I have a chance... there are a few Australian places that now stock those, although... probably like most things in Australia, there is a pretty hefty mark up.
Anyway, the local bankruptcy and deceased estates auctions are always plodding along, and I keep putting in a few bids every week at around spot price for junk silver, proper shiny silver and gold, and of course, a few novelty items as well.
It has been quite a while since I had a win... but today, I picked up six of these 24 carat gold foiled Australian 10 dollar notes. It is weird to see such a familiar note in a completely different colour... and I was hoping to win a collection of the different notes... but 6 of the same is still okay!
They are quite stiff in comparison to our polymer notes... these have the consistency of cardboad with the gold overlaid on top. Quite fragile I assume, as there is no sleeve or protective coating.
But I do love how the gold really accents the design of the notes.. The detail of the ship side is especially striking!
So, a little addition to my little stash... nothing that impressive... but beautiful novelty items none-the-less!

Those do look more substantial than the gold backs that I am used to seeing. I've always wanted to go to an estate sale, but I have a feeling the number of people would annoy me. I also think I wouldn't take it well if I lost a bid!
This estate auction is online, done in a similar format to ebay... so, I don't have to go in and be around people!
Oh, that's awesome!
Ohhh those are nice goldback notes ✨
The way the gold accentuates the ship is truly impressive ✨
Not goldbacks these ones!
