A little win from the auction house whilst I was away travelling... and it is a bit of a tacky one, but I still think it is passingly interesting! Gold leaved playing cards! Well... okay, this is DEFINITELY TACKY!
So, the wooden box that it comes in is already on the sort of tacky side... the graining is a bit meh, and it is polished off with a reddish colour. And I'm not really sure that the box really needed that 999.9 Gold Playing Cards labelling on the top... there is something a bit nicer about having a good wooden box, with a quality finish without needing to advertise in the insides.
... and then the box that contains the playing cards... well, it is a touch on the used side, but still okay.
... and the certificate...
And finally, the cards themselves. It is a pity that the design of the cards were so ordinary... they could have gone with something a bit more artistic or intersting... but stock standard shapes and imagery... meh.
... but with a golden leaved tinge to them.
I have to say, I do prefer silver or white gold in comparison to the yellow gold. To me, yellow gold just looks less appealing... it sort of looks a little dirty, and has the hint of trying too hard. On coins and nuggets, it is different... but on everyday objects... yep, on the tacky side of things.
So, an interesting purchase... but not one of my favourite ones!

Interesting find, never seen anything like it! It would have been cool if they put some unique styled cards, but oh well. There is gold, and gold is good!

Is there some pedigree attached to the cards? That is, once owned by someone famous or infamous?
I have a fun deck of pirate cards given to me by a friend.
I had to provide my own wooden box from a repurposed jewelry box.
Looks like a fun auction win.
