Today I am going to share with you another little piece I picked up at online auction a couple weeks ago. It is the 1858-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar.
The mint mark O signifies it was mintd in New Orleans. It was designed by Christian Gobrecht who also designed the other seated linerty coins along with the "Coronet Head" coins.
They were minted from 1839-1891 and contain 90% silver.
The obverse has a seated Liberty with a shield with ribbon with "Liberty" and holding a cap on a stick. The bust of Liberty is surrounded by 13 stars that represented the original 13 colonies. The date of minting is below seated liberty.
Am eagle with a shile on its chest and clutcching arrows and olve branches in its talons sits in the center of the coin. United States of America surrounds the top edge of the coin. The mint mark sits under the eagles talons and the value on the bottom edge of the coin.

we did used american coins in the philippines back in the days. it also had lady liberty and that eagle on its face

That’s a pretty awesome coin! I’d love to get some old ones like that, my oldest is 1940, which is still pretty cool but I’m looking forward to getting at least one from the 1800’s!
You should be able to find some at a local coin shop. If you are like me, and really don;t have a local coin shop, then try eBay, but be careful.
