Hoping this weeks coin share might be a little interesting to @dbooster. I picked this up on eBay for about $20, which is a somewhat over what it is worth at a condition of around AU, but oh well.
The casing is a little worse for the wear and is most likely the orignal casing it came in. @dbooster can verify, but Google translates the writing on it to say Suzuka Shinkin Bank. However, the first word changed a couple of times when I double checked, so I am not too confident in the translation. This probably means it was a memoribilia piece sold at a bank somewhere in Japan.
Not sure about you, but I enjoy the summer Olympics a great deal, especially the more traditional of the events. I am not much into the more recent events that have been added, especially Break Dancing. Next thing you know they will add Underwater Farting to the list. I like things such as wrestling, boxing, track and field and such.
The coin is 60% silver and weighs about 4.8 grams.

I could not get Google to translate the obverse of the coin, but you can see that it ha the Olympic rings and torch. These are iconic. The rings symbolize unity and the gathering of athletes together from across the globe. The torch represents the enduring spirit of the fames and the eternal flame if peace.

As you can see on the revers is the city and year of the Olympics at the top edge and the denomination in promintenly in the center. I am not sure about the translation, so it will be up to @dbooster to do so if he is so inclined.
If you have any further information about this coin you would like to add, like historical information I left out or want to correct any I may have gotten wrong, please drop it in the comments.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

Pretty sweet piece!
Well thank you very much! Hope you’re well.
Oh yes, doing fine thanks...you good?
That is good to hear. Yep, like I told @thebighigg, I’m staying vertical lately. So that is an improvement 😀
Always a good thing, staying on the right side of the grass and vertical!
Yes it is. Now that it has warmed up I’m not spending as much time online lately. Trying to find a balance now. Hopefully you will see more of me soon.
lol definitely a plus! Great to hear😀
I think it's fun to add a piece or two of foreign silver to the stack.
This reminds me that even Japan long used silver and gold as money well before Japan was discovered by the Portuguese and the west.
!BBH
I’ve been adding a lot of foreign silver to my collection lately. I find it really interesting to learn about some of it and the history. For instance the 64 Olympics was the first held in Asia and also banned South Africa due to apartheid. There are some other interesting facts as well. Hope you’re doing well dear Kerris.
Nice one. I have no Japan silver, only some modern clad. And $20 is OK, basically a cool little silver coin for the price of a couple Starbucks coffees!
Thanks. Yeah I think this is my first piece of Japanese silver as well.
That's pretty cool looking! I am sure dbooster will be able to help you out. I like the olympics too. I'm glad they are bringing softball to them.
Thanks. I know you like softball so I hope they add it for you.
I think they are in the next one.
That look like a beautiful coin my friend, so lovely.
Thank you.
Great looking coin man! We just got through sifting through my neighbors 60 pound container of change and found some Chinese or Japanese coins. Gotta get them a little bit cleaner before I can post them!
I do like the look of the Olympic Rings on it, cool stuff!
Thank you. That’s cool your neighbor had those coins. If you use Google translate you might be able to find out where they are from and what they say. I say might because it didn’t work all that well for me.
Nice find! I don't have much Japanese silver, that's a great pickup! How are things going this week?
Thanks brother!
Not doing too bad. I’m staying vertical. How about you?
Still on the green side of the grass, but I need more energy...
Waking up and finishing the day on the green side is always a good thing brother. I think we could all use more energy at our age.
