Useless Coin (2)

I am back with the second series of useless coins that I have here in my country. I am not sure if this kind of thing is also happening in your country, to have some coin that most of the time is worthless, and when you get it for change, you will have a disappointed sigh on your chest. hahaha If you want to read the first one, head on to this post useless coin.

Yesterday I talked about the useless coin, which is the 100 Rupiah Coin, and today this is the 200 Rupiah coin, which is equal to 0.012 USD, so it is 1.2 Cent USD Dollar, maybe you will get the idea of its worth if you are using US Dollar or familiar with it.

This one might enable you to buy a candy here in my country, but yeah, nothing more than that for this coin. So sometimes when I got this change, I just put it in my pocket and then dumped it is my son's piggy bank (he is still too small for it, but he loved to put it in). Hardly use it to buy things nowadays.

That is all about the useless coin on its usage in my life, and now let's talk about what we have on the coin. As you can see below, it is the reverse side of the coin, with the value of the coin, and its date, as well as the name of my county's Central Bank. Same as the other one, this one is 9 years old already.

On the observe part as you can see in the photo below, we have the National Hero and the national emblem as well as the name of my country. The hero on this coin is a lot more famous than the one on the other coin, and his name is used as the name of some of the big street in some of the City through out the city, and the most famous one is the name of the hospital, which is Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central Public Hospital

But the light effect on the photo below make him look a little bit scary. hahaha

Now my LEGO wanted to slice the coin, either a smart or dumb move. haha

Inflation, that's the big problem with fiat currency today as goods and services keep getting more expensive is because currency buying power becomes less and less. This is why I choose to keep a portion of my savings in gold and silver. They preserve buying power.

In 2014 Canada demonetized the 1 Cent coin, now my politicians are planning to eliminate the 5 Cent coin.
Here's another old banknote you might find familiar...

Some of the official here also wanted to do somekind of Redonomination to our currency as well a few years ago, since now we already have so many zero on our currency. But not sure when it will be implemented.

But yeah the inflation really hits hard. Just like your 1000 rupiah in 1959 will definitely worth a lot back then, but now it not so much.

Anyway, it is so interesting that you have that old bank note witht that kind of condition. so awesome my friend.

There is a certain appeal in collecting old banknotes, many are quite beautiful.

Fiat currency has a limited shelf life. The Canadian government is good at concealing true inflation but effects of inflation are undeniable along with the increasing tax burden.
