Morgan Reproductions - 1oz Pure Silver - Classic and Poker Chip Style Stackers

in Silver Gold Stackers2 years ago (edited)
I added a few Morgan Dollar pure silver reproduction rounds to the stack. A classic reproduction from Sunshine mint, and a pair of poker chip style stackable Morgan rounds from the SilverTowne mint.

The Original Morgan Dollar

These 1oz .999 Fine Silver Morgan Round reproductions are based on the original Morgan Dollar design. The Morgan Dollar was minted from 1878 to 1904, and then for one more year in 1921. The original coin was made with 90% silver and 10% copper - in accordance with the Coinage Act of 1837. The coin design was selected by contest, an engraver - George T. Morgan - had the winning design. Morgan's model for Lady Liberty was Anna Willess Williams, 'he said her profile was the most perfect he had ever seen' (Source). The original Morgan Dollar rounds are well known by collectors and stackers, I'll eventually pick up one of these pieces of history for myself.

Morgan Dollar Reproductions

These pure silver Morgan Dollar reproductions are from SilverTowne mint and Sunshine mint. The poker chip style silver round on the left is from SilverTown mint - the eagle is more detailed, and poker chip being firmly stackable is a nice touch.

Different from the Original

The Sunshine mint reproduction, on the right, has the Mint Mark circle in the center of the eagle, unlike the original Morgan. The original Morgan Dollar has "In God we trust" above the eagle, and the text "ONE DOLLAR" below the eagle - the original also has the minted year below the Lady Liberty.

SilverTowne Poker Chip

This 1oz Morgan poker chip style reproduction, from SilverTowne mint, is .999 Fine Silver. The round features an interlocking rim for easy stacking. The SilverTowne mint Morgan also has larger text, it plays nicely into the poker chip style.

The Eagle Side of the poker chip style Morgan has an eagle in the center with its wings spread out, clutching three arrows and a fig leaf in it's talons. There is a half wreath around the bottom half of the eagle. Along the upper half curve of the coin is the text "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", above the eagle is the text "ONE TROY OUNCE". Along the bottom curve of the text is the text ".999 PURE SILVER'.

The Lady Liberty Side of the poker chip style Morgan coin features the side profile of Lady Liberty, looking to the left. Along the top curve of the coin is the latin text "E PLURIBUS UNUM", the US motto, with the meaning "out of many, one". Stars populate the remaining lower curve of the coin, the poker chip interlocking groves frame it all in beautifully.

Sunshine Mint Morgan

This 1oz classic design Morgan Dollar reproduction, from Sunshine mint, is also .999 Fine Silver. Located in silver rich Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, Sunshine mint is a world leader in precious metals, and is a supplier to the US and other governmental mints, private corporations, and financial institutions (Source).

The Lady Liberty Side of the Sunshine Morgan reproduction features the side profile of Lady Liberty, looking to the left. Along the top curve of the coin is the latin text "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and stars populating the remaining lower curve of the coin. Just below the handsome lady's head is the text "SMI" - Sunshine Mint.

The Eagle Side of the Sunshine Mint Morgan reproduction has an eagle in the center with its wings spread out, clutching three arrows, fig leaf in it's talons, and a half wreath around the bottom half of the eagle. The eagle is not as detailed as the SilverTowne poker chip style Morgan. Along the upper half curve of the coin is the text "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Along the bottom curve of the text is the text ".999 PURE SILVER'. There is a circle on the center of the eagle with the text "MINT MARK S1" along the top and bottom curve - this is a security feature, with a clear acrylic decoder card held over the Mint Mark circle would reveal the text "VALID" across the center of the Mark (Decoder Source).

Nice Morgan Silver Rounds! Thanks for doing a side by side comparison.
Both the SilverTowne Mint and Sunshine Mint rounds are nice!
Stack on, @mraggaj !

Thanks, you're welcome, I'll admit I'm hooked on the silver :)

I've already imagined these as stacks on a poker table, without the capsules of course.

That would be a sweet poker game, just cause the chips :D

These are beautiful pieces! And it's great that you presented them through a comparison. I have zero knowledge about silvers and your post has been insightful.

By the way, I've shared this on LeoThreads and tagged you in it too :)

All the best and hope you'll soon have one of the original mints.

The silver coin is really shining bright

Woww!
The coins look so shiny

The mirror finish seems to make them shine extra :)
