I can't believe it! It's been five years since I picked up the first Australian Lunar III coin.

We are in the 5th year of release for the Australian Silver Lunar Dragon coin. Only 300,000 have been minted. This coin from the Perth Mint is sold out at the Australian Mint.

2024 Australian Silver Lunar Dragon Coin BU

The design is Ing Ing Jong's most recent Lunar artwork. It features a front-facing relief of a Chinese dragon with a coiled body and water flowing from its mouth. There is a micro-engraved security mark in addition to the P125 mint mark.

Coin Highlights:

• Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
• Issued a face value of $1 (AUD) by Australia.
• The obverse side features a portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
• On the reverse field of the coin is the Chinese dragon.
• Micro-engraved security element on the reverse.
• P125 mint mark on the reverse.

The Perth Mint is Australia's oldest mint still in operation. Originally operating as a part of the Royal Mint of England system on the continent, the Western Australian government owns and operates the mint, which opened in 1899. Since 1965, it has functioned independently of the newly established Royal Australian Mint.

The Lunar designs is so popular among collectors. Would you believe that Perth Mint they have minted 24 coins for Lunar I and Lunar II? That's 24 years, one coin every year from 1996 to 2019: Lunar Series I: 1996-2007 and Lunar Series II: 2008-2019

I started stacking towards the end of 2015 and came in the middle of Lunar II. So now that the Perth Mint continues on with the Lunar Series III collection, I was bent on starting Lunar III.

The first of the series was launched in 2020 which started a new 12-year program for investors and collectors.

The Lunar Series from the Perth Mint go along with the12-year cycle of the Zodiac where Chinese lunar calendar begins with the Year of the Rat and ends with the Year of the Pig.

The dragon today was designed by the same designer as the Lunar I & 2 Dragons.
It is definitely unusual, @silverd510 .
I prefer the design of the gold version!

It sure bears a very strong resemblance to the original Qing Dynasty 7 Mace... Kwang Tung province coin which I think Perth is aiming for, this minor coin is the 1Mace 4.4 Candareens version.

Yes, animals are so pretty on coins. The Royal Canadian Mint makes very good wildlife. The EC8 coins (Scottsdale Mint) make fish life so beautiful. Perth Mint makes great Lunar coins in addition to their Kangaroo, Kookaburra, and Koala coins. The South Korean Mint makes the amazing Tiger and Leopard coins. To name a few, hehehe.
