2025 Australia 1/10 oz Gold Lunar Snake BU (Series III)
This is the debut of Charles III in the Lunar series, making it his very first appearance. Dan Thorne created the portrait in 2024, showing Charles III in a left-profile relief and without a crown.

About the Chinese Zodiac
The Chinese zodiac features twelve distinct animal signs, each symbolizing various personality traits and fortunes. Among these, the Snake is the sixth sign, coming after the Dragon and before the Horse.
Why is the Snake the 6th animal in the Chinese zodiac?
In the lore of the Chinese zodiac, the Jade Emperor invited all the animals to a heavenly banquet, promising that their arrival order would determine their place in the zodiac. The clever Snake hid in the Horse’s hoof as the Horse galloped towards the gate of heaven. Just before they arrived, the Snake jumped out, startling the Horse and causing it to lag behind. Consequently, the Snake was ranked sixth, while the Horse took the seventh spot.
In the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Snake in 2025 begins on January 29th, coinciding with Chinese New Year, and continues until February 16th, 2026, marking Lunar New Year's Eve. The subsequent year, 2026, will be known as the Year of the Horse.
People's birth years dictate their Chinese zodiac signs. However, it's a bit more complicated than you might expect! Each year has a corresponding animal, but these years are defined by the Chinese lunar calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar, which spans January 1st to December 31st.

A very attractive coin! I haven't bought any gold yet, but I really should. I think importing restrictions make it hard for me to buy gold from outside the country, so I need to find a good Japanese source. My local coin dealer rarely has gold.
