πŸŽ„ Silver Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas- Day 4πŸŽ„

in Silver Gold Stackers β€’ 13 days ago

When I was child my family would often vacation in Idaho and Wyoming during the summertime. Both are very beautiful places especially in the mountains near Yellowstone National Park. I recall being amazed by all of the natural beauty and the spectacle of the geysers in Yellowstone. However, one of my favorite things about those trips was being mesmerized by all of the wild animals from elk, moose, bears, and especially the bison (buffalo) that roam in large herds throughout the park.

The Silver Gold Stackers Community has an ongoing challenge to share twelve items you would like to receive from your secret Santa (or under the tree,) it's called the Twelve Days of Christmas challenge. I'm currently up to day four, and today's has a lot to do with my introduction. This is the Gold Buffalo Aurum note that contains 1000 mg (1 gram) of gold deposited into the note itself. So unlike your typical fiat currency, this note contains one gram of pure gold!

And for those of you who know me, I'm a sucker for animal related silver and gold!

From SD Bullion

The design on the gold note was inspired by the 1901 Lewis and Clark $10 note bearing the image of a buffalo. The Lewis and Clark expedition was the first US exploration to the Pacific Ocean in the early 1800's. Incidentally Meriwether Lewis is a distant cousin of mine, so I also wouldn't mind the currency below from Santa either. However, because the going price on one of these in very fine condition is over three thousand dollars, that's not likely to happen! I would be thrilled to just get the gold note and it comes and a much less hefty price tag, around $139 on eBay.

From eBay.com

Isn't that old US currency note awesome? I wish they would return Liberty to all American currency as was done for more than 100 years, but even a bison and two intrepid American explorers is so much better than what we have today. Just my usual rant about the state of our sad American currency these days...

American Bison

atshq.org

history.com

The American plains bison used to roam all over most of North America, and into Canada and even Mexico. However, during the American expansions westward the bison fell victim to slaughter by the millions. Their hides were prized and very valuable commercially, and many others were killed simply for sport. By the late 1800's there were only 541 individual left. At that point someone decided it might be a good idea to stop killing them.

Since that time they have rebounded in number to over 150,000 but many are actually hybrids with domestic cattle. There are only about 20,000 genetically "pure" animals left in far spread herds in the United States. There are ongoing efforts to increase their numbers but they will likely never be fully reintroduced to their former habitats. Bison can carry diseases that can affect cattle, so ranchers are very opposed to having the animals roaming the plains once again. Then again the ranchers also oppose the reintroduction of wolves and jaguars which were native to most of the United States before being slaughtered as well.

In the wild bison may seem docile and relatively harmless. Nothing could be further from the truth, they are very big, strong, unpredictable creatures and have known to attack with little or no provocation often with fatal outcomes. In nature very few predators will even dare hunt a bison, usually only bears or wolf packs and they generally try to pick off the young calves. The adults are much more dangerous. So if you come across one in the wild best to keep your distance because being gored by a bison will seriously ruin your day.

Now you see why I like animal related gold and silver, it's a lot of fun just to see and talk about the animals themselves. That will just about wrap up my fourth day of Christmas wish list. I would love to have one of these gold buffalo Aurums! If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave them below. Right on, it would be terrible to lose such a majestic creature. I'm glad someone had the right sense to preserve the noble Buffalo or else our only impression of them will come from the memory on the old coins we hold.

I'm glad they saved them, other animals weren't so lucky. Wolves and jaguars were eradicated completely from the US, some wolves have been reintroduced which was the right thing to do. No jaguars as of yet, which is a shame, they are beautiful animals!

it's a lot of fun just to see and talk about the animals themselves

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your article today, @thebighigg. The way you described the beauty and majesty of bison really resonated with me. I share your passion for these incredible animals, and it's refreshing to see someone else appreciate their significance as well. Your insights added depth to my understanding, and I look forward to more discussions about wildlife in the future. Kudos to you for raising awareness about the bison!

I'm glad you share the same passion, not many people pay much attention to what humans have done to animals in our country over the last two hundred years. The bison is still far from being truly saved as a species. Fortunately wolves have been reintroduced after being eradicated in the wild. One that lags even further behind is the jaguar. The last female jaguar was killed off in the Grand Canyon in the 1940's and they used to span all over the southern United States. Just a few of the animals I really would like to be restored to their rightful place across our nation once again!

The bill that served as inspiration is very cool, as well as the bill containing 1 gram of gold, the story behind the bill regarding the bison I have read many years ago when I was interested in what happened to them.

I hope you can get that bill, I'll tell you, I think I would like to get one just like it LOL.

I think it's pretty cool, thanks! The bison are just another example of how humans kill of entire species, fortunately they didn't end up like to dodo bird, extinct!

I only know about Bison through the movies and of course, post like yours. I think some countries likes using animal representation in their currency and other stuff, for Nigeria, it's actually eagle.

Why is the gold colored currency costlier than the plain or silver one?

These notes are actually made with real gold, so there's one gram of pure gold embedded in the note itself. The investment is in the gold and the art I suppose as well. They do make some embedded with silver as well, but I like silver coins more personally. This is just a less expensive way to invest in gold, buying a gram or half a gram is much more practical for most people, and ounce would cost you $2,666 at the moment!

Love this coin man! I agree that bison are a wonderful to behold and spent some time in Idaho around Boise and Sweet Home. Animal coins are cool. Do you like kangaroo and turtle coins?

Any notes or coins with animals on them are always my favorites. Thanks! I love all animal coins, kangaroos and turtles included. They make a turtle coin series yearly from a Caribbean island, they are really cool!

Love the two ounce turtles!

I love these too!

Got the image from thecoinshoppe.ca, I don't own one of these yet, maybe soon!

I've been seeing a lot of these gold notes lately. They are pretty cool. I can see the draw and appeal of them. Of course, the ones I have seen have had a future president on them, so I would never drop money on that, but a buffalo I just might!

I hate any currency with any politician on it to be honest, and even less current politicians... I love animals on gold notes, Liberty, I wouldn't even mind true historical figures like Lewis and Clark, but politicians shouldn't be on our currency at all or any gold note. Just my humble opinion, I haven't seen the ones with Trump, those are just crap gimmicks that some greedy businessman is trying to cash in on.

But isn't that buffalo cool though? I love animal coins and notes!

Historic landmarks would be cool. Either that or wonders of the world. I would totally dig that.

I agree on both! Imagine a $100 featuring the Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon, that would be awesome!

Yeah, that would be really cool.

The $10 US note with a buffalo is awesome my friend!πŸ‘
In all my Coin collecting and stacking, I’ve never seen this before …..
It’s a red seal, so was this payable to the bearer in gold?

On this one I'm not sure, because I don't see any redeemable for gold on the note itself.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure either, maybe someone else here might know!πŸ˜€
It used to be blue seals were silver certificates, the red seals were gold, at least to my understanding...
I could be completely wrong LolπŸ˜‡
