What Dallas needs to do to become contenders again

in NFL TTC8 days ago

The Dallas Cowboys have a big offseason ahead of them. After another disappointing playoff exit, they need to make smart moves to finally become real Super Bowl contenders. Jerry Jones has made it clear that he wants to win now, but talk isn’t enough changes need to happen. The team has some incredible players like Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb, but they need more help if they’re going to take that next step.

One of the biggest challenges is keeping their star players while managing the salary cap. Micah Parsons is due for a massive contract, likely making him one of the highest-paid defenders in the league. At the same time, CeeDee Lamb is heading into the last year of his deal, and the Cowboys can’t afford to let him walk. But with limited money to spend, the front office has to be careful. They need to structure these deals in a way that keeps the team competitive without locking themselves into bad contracts down the road.

Then there’s free agency. The Cowboys have some clear weaknesses, especially on the offensive line and in the secondary. Injuries and inconsistent play hurt them last season, so bringing in experienced players could make a big difference. But they can’t just throw money around they need to be smart about who they sign. They also have to decide whether to keep some of their own free agents or move on and look for better options.

The draft will also play a huge role in shaping the team’s future. Dallas needs to nail its picks, especially in areas like the offensive line, linebacker, and cornerback. Drafting well doesn’t just help on the field it also helps financially, since rookie contracts are much cheaper than veteran deals. The Cowboys have had some great draft picks in the past, but they’ve also missed on a few. This year, they can’t afford to get it wrong.

Coaching changes are another big storyline. The team has brought in Ken Dorsey to help with the passing game and Conor Riley to work with the offensive line. These moves show that Dallas is trying to improve, especially when it comes to protecting Dak Prescott and making the offense more explosive. But coaching changes don’t guarantee success fans will have to wait and see if these hires actually make a difference.

At the end of the day, the Cowboys’ future depends on how well they handle this offseason. They have the talent to be great, but they need to make the right moves to get over the hump. Jerry Jones is all in, and head coach Mike McCarthy is under pressure to deliver. If they get it right, the Cowboys could finally make a deep playoff run. But if they mess it up, they might find themselves stuck in the same cycle of disappointment.
