The prompt a day idiom prompt “Life in the fast lane” is what I’m writing about. I know a lot about this subject, since I was the world’s top male ape model for 13 years and actually did spend part of my life in the fast lane.
I think there’s a song by a band called “The Eagles,” that uses the idiom, “life in the fast lane,” for its title. I’ll bet there are many songs that use idioms for the title. Another song I can think of off the top of my head is “Hey You,” by Pink Floyd. There are some web sites that list songs that have idioms for the title, but if you think about it, I’m sure you can come up with one or two yourself.
“Life in the fast lane” isn’t only used for song titles. It’s also something yours truly knows about first hand. When I got sent to the Los Angeles Zoo to become a model, because of my good looks, it represented my entry into the fast lane of fame, riches and status. Status was the best part. If you had status you could have anything you wanted. And I had status.
When I was touring zoos back in the day, it was constant partying. Some times I’d be tripping for days from all that was going on. It could get rough, too, if you’d let it get to you.
“Life in the fast lane” must originate from driving, and I think the main perspective it promotes is that when you are in the fast lane, you are going fast because it’s demanded of you by law. When some of us are going fast, it could become a problem, especially if it would have an affect on our health.
For those who live or have lived the celebrity lifestyle like I have, the same health problems can arise from the pressures of being in the fast lane too often for too long. It’s affected me in ways I didn’t understand until years after I’d given up my modeling career and settled down.
For one thing, it’s tiring. I must’ve used up about half my time during that period on just trying to keep up the pace, and ignoring the fact I was worn-out even as I was supposed to be starting each of my days. It was fun, but it was draining; more draining than fun most of the time.
Living life in the fast lane, I’d have to say, isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, and it’s been the destructive force behind the reason that many do all they can to get away from its hold over them, even though that means a quick and total end to their careers.
I spent a lot of time in deep thought about it when I had enough and called it quits. It had gotten too burdensome for me to handle, and I didn’t want to try handling it any longer.
You write so well. I would never imagine that apes had such thoughts and so vain, too. :-) Very conceited as well. LOL!!!
Thank you. I had to learn how to read & write to make sure I wasn't being ripped off on my modeling contracts back in the day. It's probably one of the best things I ever did. We apes really aren't a whole lot different from humans, so we have thoughts of success and having fun, etc too, especially we who have been in the business.
I'll be honest... it's hard for me to not be a little "conceited," as I've been used by others making money off me for my good looks nearly my whole life. Even being blessed with ultra-attractiveness like I am, can have negative consequences too. 😖🤧
