While some people such as Aaron Day have said that CBDCs aren’t a government initiative, Ed Bugos says they're being driven by global financial institutions like the BIS and rolled out by authoritarian regimes. According to Ed, CBDCs are still just fiat currency—backed by the same empty promises as the dollar, without real value or freedom.
